Yay, I have finally decided on a setting. All I need to get now is a diamond!!! My remaining buget is around $3k, and the requirements of the diamond is this: It has to be at least .75 carats (setting won't accept smaller) and it must be VS1 or better. I have found some good diamonds talking with Barry at Superbcert, such as a .84 carat, vvs2, K color. however, the jeweler told me it would probably be best to stay above H. Any comments on this? any diamonds you can point me towards would be greatly appreciated. I would really like to stay with Barry because he has been such a good sport about answering my questions. Thanks in advance! Oh yeah, go to this post to see a picture of the band: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/what-kind-of-diamond-looks-best-in-a-tension-setting.16609/

the diamond i just requested to be held for me is this:

Item Number:
Carat: 0.81
Cut: SUPERBcert Round
Clarity: VVS2
Color: I
Measurements: 6.04 - 6.07 x 3.69
Depth: 60.9
Table: 55
Girdle: THIN TO MEDIUM
Culet: NONE
Polish: EXCELLENT
Symmetry: EXCELLENT
Clarity Characteristics: PINPOINT
Fluorescence: NONE
Crown Angle: 34.2
Crown Height: 14.6
Pavil. Angle: 41.0
Pavil. Depth: 43.2

Thanks again!!!

oh yeah, and it is $3175

IMO you should lower the clarity to a VS1 or VS2 and then up the color several grades or keep it at an I and get a larger diamond.

Specs look good. 1.4, TIC, Ex/Vg/Vg/Vg. Should be a sparkler!!

You can search for alternate diamonds to consider here:

Just enter color, clarity, and carat weight and you'll see you have several other prospects to consider. Some are H&A's and some are Ideal cut diamonds.

Well, if you want to stay with SuperbCert (which is an awesome brand) you will be limiting your options. I agree with the above post re: decreasing your clarity to VS2 or even SI1 and it will still be eyeclean, like this selection. I got 2 ~.80 carats F/SI1 H&A's from Barry for an great price (~$3200), and both are eyeclean. But I have seen H's and I's hearts and arrows and they are quite white, and it's hard to find a triple VH on the BScope that fits all your requirements. So if you want to stick with VVS2, then your final selection is a good one. I especially like the cert, only a tiny pinpoint at 7o'clock.

Thanks for your suggestions. The reason i don't want to decrease the clarity is because it's a tension setting and the lowest acceptable is VS2, and i would very much rather it not break when set. That was my only reasoning for selecting a VVS2, and i couldn't find any that were less clear and more colorless that were near as inexpensive either on pricescope or superbcert's site. so if anyone can...let me know! Sorry i missed that last post as i was posting :-)

Hi questionsRus-

I've done quite a bit of research on tension settings, as I hope to get one later this year. I know that some other tension setting crafters out there will set stones as low as SI1, as long as none of the inclusions break the girdle, or are too large of a feather. I think that going with a VS2 would be more than fine, certainly a VS1 should pose no problem. I'm guessing that G&A are already giving themselves a little bit of a buffer when it comes to the clarity. Having said that, you should get whatever you are comfortable with.

As for color, I'm very sensitive to that. With the tension setting, where you will be able to easily see the diamond from the side (where color is more noticeable) I would choose a higher color. Again, that's just my preference. I'd prefer to up the color to a G or H, and decrease the clarity. In any case, there certainly isn't anything wrong with a higher clarity stone!

Can't wait to see pics of your finished ring!!!

Hi, Russ......actually, you can go to SI1 on a tension setting AS LONG AS there are no feathers on the girdle.

Even if you want to stay in VS territory, you can easily accomplish that with VS2 and get way more for your money than going VVS.
