This is perfectly normal and to be expected. It is called a tilt window.

I don't see a large culet (not cutlet, which would be a cut of meat). Are you sure this is a natural stone as opposed to glass?

Thank you! I fixed it to "culet." It was purchased as a natural stone on a 14k setting back in the 1940's.
