Natural Pearl Necklace?

I own this double strand pearl necklace with a very old clasp made from high carat gold and foiled gemstones and have a few questions.

Do you think it's worth me getting the pearls laboratory tested or is it clear from their appearance that they're cultured pearls that have been added later?

Could there potentially be a mix of natural and cultured pearls in the strands?

If you owned this necklace would you bother to have it tested professionally?

i say this with love and friendship in my heart
Id give it a clean before i did anything else
soapy water and a soft cloth will be fine, then lay them out flat to dry
i dont know about foiled gemstones so i might try not to get the clasp wet ?


the thread looks yucky - but dont worry -because Princess Anne's pearls quite often look like they need a good clean too

did you inherit these ?
they would probably like a restring
but if they were mine id be wearing them right now

Absolutely beautiful - I'm not educated about pearls but this is a very pretty necklace and if it were mine, I'd remove the clasp and wipe with a slightly damp cloth, and then restring the (gently cleaned) pearls with pinkish red silk (to match the ruby coloured stones). It's truly a gorgeous necklace. You can always pay for an appraisal but whether you do or not, enjoy wearing it!

To me they look like cultured pearls. No need to send to a lab.

I agree about cleaning and restringing! Dirty old silk is weak silk, and can break, causing the potential loss of a pearl where the knot broke.
