I put up a post a while back about a diamond I was sending to GIA for grading. I thought it was green.

Well, the results are in....

It's a NATURAL very light green VS2 1.29ct old cushion cut. I'm disappointed that we didn't get a higher grading, I was hoping for Fancy Light. I have never seen another green diamond so it was tricky to know what to expect.

So now I'm wondering what it's worth. Any ideas? Is it worth any more than a G/VS2 of the same size?

I have to admit I was fantasising about retiring on it! :(sad

Someone had a post on the colored stones forum later last year about having some sort of light colored diamond and selling it to Leibish, who recut it from a round brilliant into a radiant and upped it a number of color grades. Could be a post to look up.

I mention these because old cuts are not super good at concentrating the color the way radiant cuts do, so if you really want a higher color grade, recutting might be something to look into. I would guess you'd need a fancy-colored-diamond expert to do it. Dunno that you'd want to, but since you seem disappointed with the grade, thought I'd throw that out there.
 
Thanks for the links. I wonder how re-cutting works to up the grade? I thought that the green colour was mostly on the outside?

I'll definitely look that post up.

I guess the pair of brilliants is the most similar so I guess around $8,000?

The color is all throughout the diamond and recutting can intensify it by causing the light to bounce around inside the diamond more times. In an old cut, the light only bounces around a couple of times before exiting the diamond, whereas in something like a radiant, it bounces around a whole lot more. I think that's why? Maybe someone who actually knows real stuff can comment with a more scientific and accurate explanation. Where is Kenny when you need him.

You would really have to get a cutter who is skilled in these matters. Hopefully an expert can chime in.

How neat though! I'd imagine it's bound to be worth more than a g/vs1 right? I mean I don't know lol but how couldn't it.

I've been watching your saga I'm glad the repolish didn't ruin it like you feared.

To be fair that's a pretty awful comparison since the G is a VVS2 and the green is an I1 if not I2, and a really ugly-looking diamond to boot... And yours is a VS2 and probably a great deal prettier (it'd be hard not to be prettier than that diamond...)

According to their website they are not colored diamond experts.
You need a colored diamond expert.
I would drop Paul at http://www.infinitydiamonds.be/ an email and see if he knows of a top notch colored diamond cutter who works with the public in your area or Antwerp.
Tell him your from PS.

This is an image - it looks a little blueish here because the colour balance is slightly blue. I'm wondering if anyone can see that it's perhaps a good candidate for re-cutting, perhaps the large culet looses a lot of colour.

Sorry, but there's no way to tell.
1. Colour is off, which makes it nigh impossible.
2. The stone has to be viewed in person, so the examiner can rotate it all around and play with lighting to get a better feel for the final outcome and even that is not a guarantee.

It is impossible to tell specifically, but in general, probably ... one reason that FCDs are frequently cut into radiants is that all those minute facets provide a really great intensifier for color. I would suggest contacting Leibish and Langerman and Diamonds by Lauren, all dealers who specialize in colored diamonds, to see what they recommend.
