Nastiest thing I have seen in a while (Grammy's)

The sad thing is so many people truly don’t understand how this is racist. Instead of taking a few minutes to educate themselves, they scream “cancel culture” and play the victim .

This whole thread started with an article quoting Tucker Carlson. His segment was meant to garner outrage that something like the Grammy performance is allowed to happen while certain Dr. Seuss books aren’t being printed anymore. It’s just more white supremacy and I hate seeing it on PS.

Yuuuup.

But did I have the time of my life dancing in cages/on stage in clubs in skimpy clothes when I was young and hot? Yes!
more pix pls (1).gif Please! player.gif

Closest to a RAP song that I can think of when I was a teenager..

My thread was about the performance on the Grammy's in and of itself only. I only posted that link so people would see what (performance) I was talking about. I wasn't referencing Dr. Seuss or Mr. Potato head or anything else. So no racism or white supremacy here.

Then maybe read the article before you link it next time.

I did, as I said I just used it so people could see the performance, thank you

I wasn't aware of this song til I read your link @autumngems and I guess I am an old fogie. I do not care for this song. I read the lyrics and find them offensive and I don't think children should listen to that. It's pornographic. IMO.
Yup, I never heard of them till I read this thread. Not my kind of music...:knockout::knockout:

I'm not sure what book the Black people were shown in but I didn't see it in the ones I viewed. As far as the Asian, I did see one and to me it was not offensive looking, how are you supposed to portray someone as Asian with out using the characteristics? (No offense meant)
So you think a pigtail, slits for eyes, yellow skin, and a coolie hat are Asian characteristics? And it’s ok to portray us like this?

For your reference, here are some Chinese leading men from the past 30 years. Notice there are no pigtails, slits for eyes, or coolie hats in sight. They are clearly not yellow in hue. Even in 1937, which is when that “China man” trope was first published, the pigtail might still have been applicable, but I assure you that my people never had slits for eyes.8EA0F36F-0070-4FFE-8F48-1C8E6FD32A53.jpegF6B44697-4DAF-4F34-93D7-774034E5C8CC.jpeg5325D22B-6FAE-42DE-B33B-5F05ED0DE880.jpeg

The problem with racism today is that most people know that it’s bad and wrong, so they excuse the actions and behaviors by saying the intent isn’t there or some BS about “it was the way things were back in the day.” Then they go on the offense by making a big stink and being outraged about being called a racist, while refusing any introspection and insisting the problem is that people are too sensitive nowadays.

PS: you’re welcome for the eye candy.

Autumngems, I started where you did:
What I knew of Dr. Seuss was Green Eggs and Ham and Cat and the Hat. I moved on to more difficult readers pretty early on as a child.

So, when all this hoopla started and with what I knew of Dr. Seuss books, I'm thinking all people in cartoons are caricatures and to some extent offensive to all, as caricatures run into stereotyping all. Caucasians don't all have round faces, pug noses and pink skin. So, what's the deal here with this Dr. Seuss thing?

I looked into this more in depth since I lasted posted in this topic. I saw some images in some of Dr. Seuss' books that I was not familiar with, the books that were not Cats and Green Eggs. I also saw the political side of Dr. Seuss and those images. Google "Dr. Seuss political cartoons"...it's pretty easy to to see the problems. It seems Dr. Seuss was a hateful old man, and it looks like he brought that attitude towards other races into his children's books.

So, just like strip clubs and p@rn were over for me after I learned more, so is Dr. Seuss...ALL Dr. Seuss.

@missy - There was a famous travelling exhibition of Madonna's bras and corsets she wore onstage during performances as part of an art exhibition, so even though some of you don't see the performance as art now, neither did anyone when Madonna sang Like A Virgin....

I guess because I play Fortnite frequently with children sometimes as young as 4 and 5 (who should not be on there IMHO) if you get into a car in Fortnite you can put it on various radio stations and a couple of the channels play rap songs usually with lots of swear words and sexual imagery - mostly male rappers singing stuff about how they want to @#*@ women.

Yes people, that's what your kids are exposed to these day in games, on the internet and pretty well everywhere.

While I might not especially like the Cardi B song, I don't dislike it, if I recorded a few random games playing on teams of all ages with children from the US, Australia, New Zealand and other places, if you think the song is shocking, you'd all be horrified at the sexualised and inappropriate stuff a lot of children particularly boys aged 5 to 16 think it's O.K to say to a random stranger, especially when they know I'm a woman.

@arkieb1, and you know who is truly responsible for young boys who think it’s okay to say those things to a stranger and otherwise act inappropriately? It all starts at home.

The problem IMO is a lack of standards starting with the parents. I was waiting to pickup my six year old from school recently and a group of fifth grade girls were mouthing off to the librarian. Trust and believe if that was my kid I would not have just sat in the car.

Kids emulate what they are exposed to on the daily, we need to do better as a society.

I will no longer reply as everything I seem to say is taken out of context in what I am trying to say. I am not racist. Period. I have asked admin to close the thread.
