I am teaching English in Paris for the school year and my SO of three years is visiting in February for two weeks. I believe I have found a reasonably non-cliché place.
I have enjoyed reading these forums this morning and I am glad to find such a friendly community of diamond enthusiasts. I''d like to post a couple questions that fall into the gray area and see what the experts think
Based on my budget, about $3500-$4500, and readings over the last weeks I am looking at the following guidelines.
My best source for a stone/setting is online. I trust the company, use them for other things, even offers an upgrade program, but I am shopping sight unseen.
I plan to set a princess stone in a size 5.5 white gold channel setting, based on her tastes and I''d like to get a stone in the .8 to 1ctw region with no glaring defects to the naked eye.
I am looking at five different stones and I would greatly appreciate your comments,
1. 0.96ctw, J, VVS1, very good cut, table73/depth73, excellent polish/symmetry, slightly thick girdle, *medium florescence*
2. 0.94ctw, J, VS2, excellent cut, table68/depth74.4, very good polish/symmetry, thin to slightly thick girdle
3. 0.88ctw, I, VS2, excellent cut, table67/depth75, very good polish/symmetry, thin to thick girdle, faint florescence
4. 0.87ctw, I, VVS2, very good cut, 71table/75depth, excellent polish, very good symmetry, medium to slightly thick girdle
5. 0.84ctw, H, VS2, excellent cut, table67/depth71, excellent polish, very good symmetry, medium girdle.
I see the pros/sacrifices in each stone, but I don''t know which are negligible to a layman like myself.
Can I rule out a prince stone which table = depth?
Is J a noticeable difference from H?
Sorry if this was a little lengthy. I appreciate it if you read this far!
