Hi, first time poster, but thanks to all for the valuable information that exists here.

I'm planning to buy a ring within the next hour or two (hopefully in time to get it in hand tomorrow) from Blue Nile. I've narrowed my search down to these two stones (links to reports):

http://tinyurl.com/3zsjdhv

The first has a better color rating (F) and still ranks as the "Signature Ideal" cut, but judging from the images in the report, the cut seems a little less perfect than the second. However, the second has an H color rating as well as medium blue fluorescence. From what I read this isn't a great combination. I'm leaning toward the first, but would love an experienced opinion. I called Blue Nile and got a nice representative, but didn't really succeed in getting beyond a pretty generic comparison of color grade and such.

Any quick thoughts before I make a move?

Thanks!

I'm no expert but just went through the purchase process and since you need QUICK advice - since both are sig-ideal cuts, between the two I would go with the first stone - the FVS2. I just would NOT want to pay for IF clarity and would wonder what I could get if I'd lowered that one "c" factor - here it looks like you make a great jump into the colorless category (which I really like but your/her preference might be for a warmer stone) without florescence (also a plus in my opinion)

BEST OF LUCK!

prefer #2 from the cut. fluor should be fine, personal preference, most of the time you will not see any effect at that strength level.

the cut on the second is better. As for the H with medium blue flouro- it will make your H look whiter, and you shouldnt see any negative aspects, especially since the clarity is IF meaning it wont be cloudy or milkly looking IRL.

The over-blue effect has not been correlated to clarity

My understanding is different - https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/what-causes-haziness-in-some-stones-w-fluor.156221/

Certainly 'overblue' is not because of fluor and only fluor, fluor is what it is, with a standard set of characteristics and behaviours - so there must be some other factor that is not being considered when overblue is blamed solely on fluor..

You all are amazing. Thanks so much for the quick responses.

I went with the second one and it's absolutely beautiful. I have to say, it's actually better than I had hoped.

Thanks again.
