I have narrowed by selection down to 4 stones from online vendors. Monday I will order two of them for visual inspection and appraisal for a final on which one ultimately to buy. Which 2 would you select for final inspection. Diamond will be tension mount by Gelin & Abaci. ALl 4 stones GIA certified.

On the holloway cut adviser the stone scored in order, 1.3, 1.4, .8 and 1.3.

All stones in the same price range (with the exception of #3 being about 15% cheaper).

Stone 1 1.59k
Measurements 7.52 x 7.55 x 4.66
Color H
Clarity VS1
Polish EX
Sym EX
FL - None
Table 54%
Crown Angle 34.5%
Crown height 16%
Girdle thn - med
Pavilllion Angle 40.8%
Pavillion depth 43%
Total Depth 61.8%

Stone 2 1.63k
Measurements 7.57 x 7.60 x 4.65
Color H
Clarity VS2
Polish EX
Sym EX
FL - None
Table 56%
Crown Angle 34.3%
Crown height 14.9%
Girdle med - sthk
Pavilllion Angle 40.9%
Pavillion depth 43%
Total Depth 61.3%

CONCERN WITH THIS STONE (2)......IS THE CROWN HEIGHT AND ANGLE TO SHALLOW

Stone 3 1.62k
Measurements 7.55 x 7.60 x 4.65
Color G
Clarity SI1
Polish EX
Sym VG
FL - None
Table 55%
Crown Angle 35%
Crown height 16%
Girdle thn - med
Pavilllion Angle 40.6%
Pavillion depth 42.5%
Total Depth 61.4%

CONCERN WITH THIS STONE (3)........ HAVENT HAD THE BEST LUCK SO FAR GETTING AN EYE CLEAN SI1 FROM ONLINE. HAVE ALREADY SENT TWO BACK. So not sure if i want to keep bothering trying.

Stone 4 1.71k
Measurements 7.64 x 7.68 x 4.74
Color H
Clarity VS2
Polish VG
Sym VG
FL - None
Table 55%
Crown Angle 35.5%
Crown height 16%
Girdle med - sthk
Pavilllion Angle 40.6%
Pavillion depth 42.5%
Total Depth 61.9%

CONCERN WITH THIS STONE.....IS THE CROWN ANGLE OF 35.5 PUSHING THE LIMIT. Also, isnt a pavillion angle of 40.6 also the lower end of the range you want to go.

Thanks for all your help. Great site!!

My top pick is #2; my second pick is #1. These are the two I''d have sent in.

dont think the crown angle and height are to shallow on #2?

34.3 is not a shallow CA. Besides, it's more about the combination of CA and PA; CA by itself doesn't mean anything. And angles are more important than height.

On the holloway cut adviser the stone scored in order, 1.3, 1.4, .8 and 1.3.

This means that in each case, all the angles work well together.

1 is sort of an industry/market favorite.

2 where did you get the 40.9 (a Sarin?)

3 SI1is a legitimate concern in a tension setting where the pavilion view is exposed.

4 40.6 with a 35.5 is fine.

Of 1,2,4, it''s completely personal preference, and we''re talking about biases that you might not even be able to discern.

The 40.9 is a measurement the dealer had sent me. (They sent me a diagram of the diamond with all the measurements). I had asked them if they had a sarin report on it and that is all they sent me back.

Checking it on the GIA report finder, the GIA has it listed as 41%. Everything else matches what they sent me. Does the GIA round up .9?

Yes, GIA rounds PA angles up to increments of .2 and CA angles are rounded to the nearest .5
