Hey,

My name is Ron, I finally narrowed down my stone which fell under my budget which is always great!!!. I wanted to see what other's who deal with stones on a daily or more frequent basis think of the stone i picked, and can advise me on pricing and/or other aspects of the stone which seem good/bad. The SI1 im looking at is very clean to the eye & inclusions are mostly on the sides of the stones, which the setting can cover up.

Stone:
1.58ct H SI1 GIA
Depth-63.7%
Table- 56%
Polish- Excellent
Length to Width - 7.37/7.32= 1.006
Girdle -Slightly thick, Cutlet-None

GIA REPORT:
Round Brilliant
Measurements: 7.32 - 7.37 x 4.68mm
Carat: 1.58c
Color: H Clarity
Grade: SI1 Cut
Grade: Very Good
Finnish- Polish-Excellent & Symmetry-Excellent
Fluorescence- Faint

Im getting quoted 11K for the stone after being discounted $1,500 of retail price, does that seem fair?

What would an ideal depth be (59%-62.5%)? Does everything else looks decent so i can ask to jeweler to find something with less depth but keep around the same numbers for others?

The jeweler assured me it does not take away from the brilliance of the stone, and i love the stone but that might be because im not educated much about stones. I did more research based on the remarks you two posted. I offered 10,500 for the stone, which he refused, im sure i can find a better stone out there for under 11K correct?

Pic of stone:

I also used the HCA calc and got this below, it says its a good buy depending on the price.

The HCA is a rejection tool ,any score over 2 means reject.

The poor HCA combined with the VG cut grade by GIA says *to me* I would not buy that stone. In all liklihood, despite what your jeweler is saying, this stone will be less exciting optically accross a variety of lighting situations than a better cut stone. Brilliance is only one aspect of diamond optics.

I suggest asking him to call in some AGS0 graded stones, or GIA Ex stones that score under 2 on the HCA. Then compare them in all sorts of different lighting environments and make your own call about the optics.

That price he is asking is low compared to what you would spend for a really well cut stone in that size and specs. So you will have a decision to make about budget etc.

You asked what you could get elsewhere so I will make some suggestions of well cut stones that might fit your budget. And don't try to run these by your jeweler, he will slam them because he is not offering them to you. ;))
