Naom Carver?

I can’t find the link for the JA stone because I have it on hold. Should’ve saved it. Only know the SKU #.

Yeah JA is weird with their ASET images. They have no problem providing for other shapes but won't for rounds. Weird policy. But whatever. Alternatively they will provide idealscope images on up to 3 stones.

You may ask BN about an idealscope image too. Although since BN deals so much in virtual inventory they may tell you no on that image as well. It really depends on the capabilities and agreements they have with the specific supplier of that stone. Many times you have look at proportions, run an HCA and make a judgment call in rather to order the stone without advanced images. Then let your eyes be the final choice once the stone arrives, unless you choose to buy your own scopes to use to verify light performance.

@sledge - either of those stones would have been perfect for this project. Unfortunately - as far as Nurse-88's project is concerned - they sold the day I listed them.

Thanks for the update. And congrats on a quick and pain free sale! They had gorgeous proportions and was fairly priced, so their quick movement is not a surprise.

OP, I love the I SI2 from BN. It is a gorgeous stone and super eye-clean. The inclusions do not bother me. My last stone was a 2.1ct I SI2- also very eye-clean, so don’t let the clarity grade be a concern at all. It is great that you have it on hold. I would purchase that stone and the double halo from BN and call it a day. ;)

Thank you. I’m just waiting for BN to email me back confirming if the stone is eye clean, and if there are any hues to it. They said they had to send a request to “the vault” and will email me the response by (hopefully) tomorrow.

The stone is practically eye-clean in the video, so I would not be worried. “I” is a very safe color and the stone seems to have the typical yellow hue in its profile (which is normal) no brown or gray. ;)

BN confirmed it is eye clean, with no milky, hazy tones to it.

Excellent news!

Just curious -- what was their definition of "eye clean"? A pretty standard definition is no inclusions from the top view of 10" away with normal 20/20 vision. However, there is not an "industry standard" definition per se. It's up to the individual to define, as we all have different levels of vision.

What did they say about the idealscope image, as opposed to the ASET? If they will provide then post here and we can comment.

If no images are available, you have to make a gut call. Unless you have some other bad vibe, I'd probably go ahead and have the stone shipped to me loose for inspection. While waiting, I would gorder a handheld ASET scope (about $40) so that your eyes can confirm the sparkle and also the ASET scope can confirm the awesomeness. If either your eyes or the ASET results aren't good, you reject the stone and start over.

Alternatively, you could have shipped to your local jeweler that is setting the stone. He can probably provide an opinion, and also have powered scopes to look at the inclusions and GIA number inscriptions. You may check ahead of time, as he might also have an ASET or Idealscope scope.

Excellent! The stone has perfect proportions as well! Great find! We can’t wait to see it set in the double halo and hope that your SO loves it as well!

The stone is in my possession! It looks perfect to me. Definitely eye clean. My iPhone 8 will not focus on the diamond for the life of it! Anyway, that’s a battle for another day.

Blue Nile recommended insurance, which is coming out to $5/day for the loose stone for now.

The stone is not being kept at my residential address, as my future fiancé lives with me. It is being kept at another residential address, where homeowners insurance is present.

It’s complicated because every invoice/blue nile receipt shows my name and address, but the stone is being stored elsewhere, so I have doubts I’ll be able to use the other homeowners insurance to file a claim if I needed to.

The stone will be there for another month while I wait for the Naom Carver setting to come in.

What should I do? Insure it on my own while it’s being kept elsewhere? Or leave it where it is with the other parties home owners insurance?

100% insure it!! Why didn’t you have BN do the setting as well? Or will you buy the setting separately?

Sorry, I thought I mentioned it here, maybe I didn’t?

I have the actual Naom Carver setting on order with Adam at Bill LeBouef Jewelers.

It should be in by October. 5th.

Since you're purchasing the Noam Carver semi-mount from Bill LeBouef Jewelers, how about asking them if you could store the diamond in their vault while they await delivery of the semi-mount -- if their own "jeweler's block" insurance policy would cover any loss or damage while it's in their care. Even if their own insurance policy won't cover an "outside" stone, it's doubtlessly safer in their vault than anywhere else (unless you rent a safety deposit box at a local bank).

$150 for a month of coverage -- 30 days @ $5/day -- seems pricey to me. That's more than 8% of the purchase price of the stone.

Agree that insurance sounds expensive. Have you asked Jeweler's Mutual for a quote?

If the other property is vacant I would have an issue leaving there. But then again there are many good places to hide something as small as a diamond. People can't steal what they can't see.

Of course, then I think about a buddy that bought an old house and was remodeling the kitchen. During the process they found a mouse or something of similar skeletal mass had gotten stuck in a wall cavity and died there. My luck would be a squirrel would find my hiding spot and jack my bling.

Congratulations on your stone. So happy the stone checked out & you were pleased with it. Now I can sigh a huge sigh of relief when told me the stone was beautiful & all you could see was nothing but sparkles. Adam working his magic & getting the ring in sooner than the original ship date is a huge plus. I think you'll be fine where the stone it at the moment for less than 4 weeks. I actually don't even think it needs to be insured while the stone is where it is, which is a pretty secure location. I don't recall you mentioning there is a lot of traffic at that location. But if you are more comfortable doing so, & will alleviate some stress, then do what makes you confortable. Nurse88 does not live near the store she purchased the setting from & would be at min. a 2- 2 1/2 hr drive. Adam, store owner, is fantastic & accommodating. I suggested Nurse 88 make an appt. to bring the stone in once the setting arrives, they will set it while she waits. Shipping costs with insurance is pretty high here.

Sledge, once the ring has been presented, there is a home owners policy they can look into. If that doesn't work it wouldn't hurt checking out other alternatives. Again, once the ring goes on the hand, you can look into the policy & we can help decipher the language for you to help you if you should stay with them or go with Jeweler's mutual.

Keep trying to take pics. You'll need to take quite a few as taking diamond pictures are challenging. Sometimes they sparkle so much the camera wont focus. Try a magnifying glass, or turning off the flash or eliminating the glare. I know Kenny had mentioned a good way to take pics but I can't remember at this moment what it was. I still take terrible pictures. LOL

I am aware you can do a homeowner's policy. I have a similar policy on my gun collection -- much larger than the jewels in this house. Although she's already changing everything else so I am sure that will change soon too. :cool2:

Many people advise against insuring jewelry on your homeowners policy because of unfavorable language/terms and also because they like their property insurance being independent of their jewelry as they don't want a conflict of interest (possible cancellation or increased rates) if there are frequent jewelry claims.

Sledge, ya, the insurance industry is not very transparent. Once she get a hold of the homeowners insurance specifics, we can help her & her fiancé sort through it. :-)

Thank you Molly! That is quite a bit of reference. Looks like I might need to crack open my real camera ( Sony Cybershot G). So many people take fantastic shots with their iPhones but that doesn't happen to me. :(2

Oops! I meant $5/month! Yikes! Sorry.

You are seriously invited to my wedding. I could not have found the stone I did without you. You are my HERO!

So I should have the finished ring in hand sometime next week.

I sent the jeweler the stone last week, & the setting must’ve arrived the same day (a week early) because he emailed me the next afternoon saying the ring was ready for me.

I thought the prongs were too large, so I asked him to reduce them in size to make them more “dainty” looking. Otherwise, what do you think of the finished product?

I think it will be great once the prongs are thinned out. I am so glad that you were able to find this exact ring within your budget. Can't wait to hear about the proposal!

HI:

It takes a community! Well done!

cheers--Sharon

Thank you all very much!

I will definitely update you on the proposal :)

What do you guys think of the prongs now?

The pictures are huge so it's hard to tell what they might look like in person. What do you think of them? I probably would have asked for claw prongs but that's a personal preference thing.
