Naom Carver?

As a follow-up to @diamondseeker2006 's immediately preceding post (#60): did the jeweler who quoted you $2260 for the Noam Carver semi-mount know that you want to purchase only the semi-mount, not a complete ring, from them? The reason I ask is because many authorized retailers of a "designer brand" will not sell you just the setting (unless it's a showcase sample & that particular style has been discontinued). I'd hate to see you make the trip to wherever only to discover that the price quoted you is actually conditioned on you buying the diamond from them as well.

I was actually referred to Bill by Judy on this board (coffee critical) and he gave her the price for the setting which she passed onto me. He is located in Barrie. I have sent him a follow-up email as well. Hopefully we can connect this week.
I’m not against purchasing a diamond from him, but at a fair price compared to stones I can purchase on BN & so on. We will see what he says.

Any stones he offers me I will post here for opinions :)

And by Bill, I meant Adam. Lol! Oops.

Adam at Bill leBoeuf Jewellers in Barrie is awesome! He set my transitional diamond in a stuller setting and kept my budget right in line. He has some nice estate diamonds on his site as well.

Yup, that’s where I’ve found the setting.

That’s what I thought! Their estate cases are fun to look through as well, when you head up to their shop. Adam was amazingly patient with all my emails and questions for such a tiny budget.

I’m so excited I found Adam and the setting!!!

So you are saying that he will order the setting to be made for your particular diamond after you choose it? Or are you buying his sample setting?

He is going to order the setting made for the particular diamond. He wants the diamond details once I’ve purchased it so he can order the setting properly.

So you aren't buying the stone from him?

What is your budget for diamond only? Are you okay with ordering from the US if the final totals your max budget or less? If so we will need to account for duties, etc which is okay. Are we correct to assume shipment to the Toronto area?

I’m not against buying a stone from him but he sent a list to Judy who has been helping me and we were able to find much better stones on BN for a better price.

I am okay with buying from the US.

I live about an hour away from Toronto in the Niagara Region.

I’m hoping to find a .7ct stone for around $1.5-$2k CDN.

So we are looking at $1,160-1,550 USD budget and that would have to include your taxes, shipping, etc.

Using the JA calculator, this appears to be about 13%.

Those figures in USD would put me over budget. I wish the CAD dollar was better than the USD, haha!

So I’d be looking at around $1500USD max.

As expected, it's tough finding a stone with your budget and size requirements. This one looks pretty good.

0.60ct I SI1, 1,990$ CAD (duty free) - 55 table, 34.5/40.8, 75 LGF
https://www.bluenile.com/ca/diamond-details/LD09529159

Wish it had excellent polish instead of very good, but at the price point I think you are okay. Table and angles are gorgeous, plus 75 LGF means fat arrows.

Yeah, I inversed the CAD and USD fields. I caught it and corrected it on my post above, but you probably need to refresh as it took me a 5 minutes or so before I noticed it.

Sorry for the confusion.

No worries! Thank you for that. I’ll put that stone on hold for now.

If you have some wiggle room in your budget, these get you into a super ideal stone with much more generous upgrade policy.

We'll mobilize once you're ready. :mrgreen2:

muskokathompson, you are absolutely right about Adam, super guy. Bill Leboeuf has been around for a long time. It's nice to see an old fashioned family business still in business. I love going there & trying all kinds of stuff on. Adam brought out a 9ct round stone one day & had me try it on. I was like...ya, I can rock this everyday. :lol-2: It looked like a door knob on my size 6 finger. No DSS there! Not sure if he still has it but next time you go in, ask him to try it on. It's low on the colour scale, maybe O, but massive. I have fun with all the staff actually, so nice. It really is corny, but you do feel like family when you go in there.

For those local or not so local, it's worth the drive to Barrie. :)

Sorry to thread jack! Here's the ring. I thought I had saved a pic!. It's actually 9.25ct. I'd halo it.

There is a 0.68ct H SI1 with picture perfect proportions for sale on LT right now for $1700 USD:
https://loupetroop.com/listings/bands/selling-2-x-perfectly-matched-68ct-diamonds

Private sale (likely tax implications). Very reputable seller - she’s a diamond connoisseur and a PS staple. And a lovely and honest person.

I truly don’t think you’re going to do better than this retail... definitely worth reaching it if interested!

Assume this is @mrs-b.

If budget allows I'd jump on this. Angles are gorgeous @ 34.5/40.8. Very similar stone to what I found at BN, except better color and about 0.20mm bigger.

Which, as sledge might tell you, is a size jump that the (normal) human eye could detect.

True. About 1/128th of an inch. Noticeable side by side to a stone measuring 0.20mm less. But probably not significant and memorable enough to say "oh wow, it was so much bigger".

</end broken record>

@ccuheartnurse
That’s some rock!! I’ll ask Adam when I’m in next but maybe the OP will see it first!

It's easier if you provide the links to the stones, so we can look at the videos, etc.

I don't like the JA stone. While the 34 crown and 40.6 pavilion is within the parameters we like to see, they are not as complimentary. You want to see a lower crown paired with a higher pavilion. So 34 crown with 40.9 pavilion would work. As a result, you can see how this is playing on the potential cut grade looking at angles only.

With the BN stone, I like the 56 table and the crown/pavilion angle are more complimentary. A 35.5/40.6 combo can work; however, I would want to see an idealscope (IS) or ASET image to confirm light performance.

My main concern is the stone is an SI2. While you can certainly find some nice eye clean SI2's, I personally would feel more warm & fuzzy having someone at BN put their eyes on the stone and verify it is indeed eye clean. Since they deal in virtual inventory, they will have to put in a request to their supplier for this evaluation. Ask for the IS or ASET at the same time if you are still interested.

Did you decide to pass on the used stone by @mrs-b? Those had great color, angles and size for a small budget.

The 70pt I SI2 from BN looks nice and you can purchase the double halo setting through them!

Links are easier, because then we can look at the inclusions on the SI2.

@sledge - either of those stones would have been perfect for this project. Unfortunately - as far as Nurse-88's project is concerned - they sold the day I listed them.

I’m waiting for BN to send me an email with answers regarding if it’s eye clean/if there are any hues, etc.

James Allen already responded saying their stone is eye clean and has no hues. Neither can provide ASET images.
