Hi, my ring is done. They sent me pics to approve, I was super busy- didn't see email and Vera called. I went through the pics and said it looked good. Now that I take a second look since I have some down time- does it look like one of the side stones is set up way higher? I'm not in a rush for this ring. I want it done right.

Gorgeous ring! Love the proportions and setting!

One side does look slightly higher feom the side view, are the stone sizes the same or does the setting compensate for differences in sizes?

Since I am OCD about things like these, yes, it looks like the right side is set higher by 1mm than the left side. That is all I noticed.

It appears that the left side (in the last pic) is the correct side because the metal pattern seems to align whereas in the right side the upside down V design on the main stone does not align properly with the halo-like round part of the smaller right stone. Does that make sense? Told you, I am OCD about these things.

The right looks slightly higher now that you mentioned it. If you don’t look for it, you would not have noticed.

I think the right side diamond is set slightly higher and the space below the diamond on the right is a little bit bigger. Not sure how noticeable it would be in real life (is it more obvious due to magnification?).

However, symmetry/spacing is very important to me, so it would bug me if it wasn’t fixed. I want to see and know I am looking at pure perfection, that is me though.

Yes, the right side does look a bit higher. Have they already shipped it?

Very pretty! I also do think the right side is higher. You can see that the culet is higher. I would want that fixed and you’re in no rush. It is gorgeous though!

Right side definitely. Beautiful ring!

I love this setting. If I ever end up with a set of G-H’s, I’m going for this one. Lol.

The right side of the ring looks off to me. I don’t think it’s just the stone that’s too high. It might be the setting itself. I hope it’s just my eyes are tired & it’s actually ok.

It is a beautiful setting! I do think it is the space underneath that you have pointed to that makes the right side higher. Should be an easy fix.

I really think it’s the angle of the photo. If you look at the bottom of the photo, you can see the length of the “ring holder thingy” (very technical term;). If the photo was take straight on, all you would see is the very end of the “ring holder thingy” and it would look like a dot.

I don't think it is the angle of the picture - the metal of the cross bars holding the diamonds meet at the same place in the setting on the left, but the right side-diamond's is up higher than the middle diamond on the right. That would drive me crazy.

If you draw a line across the top of the prongs for the left diamond, the line intersects with the top of the middle prong of the center diamond, but if you do the same on the right, the line overshoots.

I do think one side is set higher and you can clearly see it in the photos. How did that happen? I had an issue, which I saw was an issue via the pics (also Whiteflash), but I had it sent to me before the shut down anyways. While I was so glad to have it back with the unknowns of the shutdown, I was upset that it was wrong. Please make sure it’s fixed before they send it to you.

Yes, I see it. Other than that, it’s a beautiful design.

Ok, I'll reach out to WF today. It a lot of money to may for something defective. I don't think it can be fixed without recasting too.

Beautiful ring, but yes, the sides don’t seem to line up exactly.

Beautiful ring but the right is definitely higher!
I hope they will be able to rectify it before sending over to you! :)

Yes - agree that the right side is set higher.
Am sure WF will correct it.

Keep us posted. Definitely ask them for a recast.

I was wondering if the ring is tilted in the photo, like @bludiva said. But it seems enough people see the discrepancy. Odd that WF didn’t catch that.

I always adored this 3 stone setting!

I think we need to page @yssie for her keen eye on this WF setting that she knows so well!

Hello @soxfan!!

Goodness, they got your setting made quickly - and the stone proportions are sublime :cool2:

Couple thoughts on the sidestone asymmetry - I tilted the image 1 degree clockwise and added grids. I think the ring was cast symmetrically, and the sidestone asymmetry that we're seeing is the result of three things that would happen during finishing -

  • The ring isn't totally centered in the photo. Here's a GIF - I took the right half and pasted it over the left, and you can see how doing this actually skews the shank inward as well as changing the gallery view! It's kind of slow - three second delay I think. I think that's impacting what we're seeing, at least a little.

  • The way the crossbars were polished. On the right side it looks like they're higher - I think that's because the underside of the right crossbar was polished a touch more, and to keep crossbar width the same the top of the right crossbar was polished a little less. The end result is a crossbar that looks a little "higher placed" - but you can kind of see where the point of polishing began (blue arrow).

  • It looks to me like the right stone is set a touch higher in its basket, and I think it might also be angled downward, away from the center, a tiny bit more than the left stone. The girdle sits a little higher over the top of the crossbar. Since the crossbar already looks "higher placed", the differential in stone height is exaggerated (red arrows).

@soxfan I'm confident WF will want you to be thrilled with your new mount! And I think your concerns are reasonable and worth raising. Please let us know what they recommend?

Wow. You know your stuff! I am going to touch base with them tomorrow. If they say it's just the pic, I'll get the ring and check for myself and see if I want to send it back. Thank you for responding!

Did they have to do anything or was it that the ring was off center in the first picture?

Must have been. There would be absolutely NO way to fix that without recasting.

If I get it and it's just an altered pic and those issues are still there and I can't live with it, I'll send it back. Just wanted to give them benefit of the doubt that they wouldn't ship three super ideal stones in a wonky setting.
