Hello all,

I just want to know if anyone else has experienced this with their lab grown diamond? I have had a lot of great help on this forum with sourcing a lab grown and absolutely fell in love with a 2.37CT but today as I was at the jewelers to make a custom setting for it I went into shock. Next to another diamond at the jewelry store, mine was clearly tinted! Has this happened to anyone else? I thought mine was absolutely perfect until today. I feel heartbroken that it's not "white"? Thanks you all!

Hi, I’m no diamond expert but there’s only 1 grade higher than E being D.
Colour is judged with the stone upside down on a white background.
I’m wondering if the other diamond had high fluorescence, that can make the diamond seem bluer which in comparison your eye might interpret as whiter.
Was it the same carat weight? As diamonds get bigger their body colour is more apparent or perhaps it might have been a better cut diamond than yours.

Also, I would double check the engraving on the side of your lab diamond to make sure it matches the certificate.

Was it this stone you are referring to?

What lighting was in the shop?
Did you view them side by side in other lighting?
Did yours show a lot more sparkle/fire?

Perhaps the other was a more 'spready' cut which may favour white light return making it look whiter/brighter but at the expense of all other aspects of performance?

Who graded the other stone? Was it also IGI graded?

Well cut stones reflect environmental colors and poorly cut do not… maybe at play?

Hello, @Shnookums - do you have the grading report number handy?
We can look to see if there is a 360 video for it and check the hue/body color of your diamond.

Hello! oh my gosh yes that is her! how did you find that? LOL
so to answer your questions. The lighting in the store was definitely more cooler toned not the usual bright bright lights etc of a typical jewelry store. I did not compare them side by side in a different lighting source. I was honestly almost too embarrassed to even say anything. Mine definitely showed a ton of sparkle! But it was definitely more yellow/beige in the tint. :(

I don't know the stats of the other diamond, the jeweler was pulling out stones and rings because we were sitting down and designing a custom setting for my diamond and that's when i noticed it. I was too mortified to say anything

I actually bought a tool so that I could make sure the engraving was correct and it was the right stone. Thankfully! I would suggest everyone to do the same too.

The crystal quality and hue look fine... I'd say in line with what I've seen for IGI E color Type IIa HPHT. Do you recall what color top/coat you were wearing in the jewelry store when you noticed this about your diamond?
Did you take notice of the ceiling or wall colors?
Overhead store lights halogen warm yellowish or cool white LED white?

What color top did you have on?

Edit: what DejaWiz asked above lol

I have noticed in Cartier and many other upmarket stores they have beige walls and ceilings (making people feel comfortable?)
D-E diamonds looked like I-J
