I can hardly believe that I''m posting in this forum!

We got engaged last Friday on the way down from Mt. Tallac in Desolation Wilderness near Lake Tahoe. It was a tough, but gorgeous hike and I had absolutely no idea it was going to happen!

The ring:
Cushion Brilliant
1.1 Carat
G
VS1
L/W 1.01 (A little more square than I typically like, but it''s still beautiful!)
No Fluorescence
No Culet
GIA

Next up: PICS!

I looooove my stone, but the setting needs some love. My fiance (how weird!) purposely got the most plain setting he could find with the intention that it wouldn''t be a big deal if I made some adjustments.

I have a family ring that has a bunch of small diamonds. It''s a style that I''ll never wear, so I was thinking of maybe using those. I''ll try to post a pic of that ring too.

Do you all have any ideas?!

Congratulations. Very pretty.

Very nice, it is so icey!

Here is the family ring. I think I can use the small diamonds along the band.

Oh, forgot to mention one caveat: Halos aren''t really my style.

I appreciate any ideas!

So Lovely! Congrats!

It''s beautiful!! congrats!

Oh, what a *gorgeous* stone! I quite like the setting it''s in now, but if you want to use your family stones ... maybe an eternity setting? Or a split shank?

It''s gorgeous! Congrats on your engagement, Cartwheel! I''m with Circe, I think a split shank might be a great look if you''re not into halos. If you want something more sleek/modern, you could incorporate a single row of melee from your family ring into a thicker shank...you could even set the stone E/W instead of N/S for a different look. The stone is definitely more square than rectangular but I wonder if you had it set E/W if it wouldn''t look less square? Perhaps some photoshop-savvy PSr will assist you with some ideas! (Photoshop is not my forte, sorry!)

These suggestions are great!

Monarch - I''m definitely a modern/sleek look kind of girl. I really do prefer simple and thought I wanted a very plain band, but now that I have it, I kind of want to add some spice.

I''ve been emailing with Lesley at Brian Gavin to get her feedback on a some ideas. I must say that I''m a big Tiffany Novo fan. I have no idea if we can afford something custom or what it would cost, but it never hurts to ask!

Thanks again for the great ideas! Keep ''em coming!

This is pretty much exactly what I want in my future engagement ring, so of course, I love it as it is! It is so simple and elegant. But I think that a split shank could be very pretty. It''s a lovely idea to incorporate family diamonds.

Congrats on the engagement!!! It''s beautiful on your finger! Another idea is to scatter the family diamonds around the band a bit like in the first link. I''ve attached two other looks for you to see for a total of 3 ideas. Good luck!!

I love the ideas that Luckyshe gave you, especially the divisi! You could use your heirloom diamonds and have a beautiful split shank!

Absolutely beautiful! I really like the "Divisi" setting by Whiteflash for your cushion...

Can''t wait to see what you do!

Very pretty!!! Congrats!

very pretty stone! It is truly lovely, cant wait to see what you come up with.

Beautiful Cushion! Congrats on the engagement

I love your e-ring! Simple and ELEGANT! I would use some of those extra diamonds in a 4 or 5mm eternity wedding band, gypsy set. The look will go excellent with your e-ring.

Very lovely indeed.

That is so gorgeous!!!

It''s really lovely. Congratulations on your engagement!

Beautiful ring. The first thought that popped into my head is that I hope you do not make your ring into a halo! Even though I think that style is pretty, there are too many out there.

The extra diamonds would make for a wonderful wedding band.

Congrats!

Congratulations cartwheel - what a beautiful cushion! I like the sentimentality of using stones from your family ring, but make sure they''re of similar quality to your cushion - you wouldn''t want I,SI2s in a band with a G,VS1 center stone.

beautiful stone, I can''t wait to see what your ring looks like!

Oh my, that stone is just beautiful!!! I like the idea of a split shank as well, but in the meantime it looks gorgeous in the current setting, wow!!! And congrats!

Congratulations! And what a beautiful stone. I agree on the split shank. I have a ring with a split shank with diamonds and it looks great!
