My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid!!

I find it hard to understand why everyone is maligning this unnamed PSer. If I received a package with no ring I wouldn't pay for it either. It sounds like the buyer has done what they can do.

And it's interesting that you've been too busy to even post, but when the buyer hadn't had a chance to go to the post office yet, that meant they were a thief.

As for a signed confirmation, that means nothing. Any mail carrier, postal worker or stranger walking by could sign a confirmation.

Anyway, I do hope you can get your claim paid.

If you received a package with no ring - wouldn't you contact the sender and ask her what happened?
I think most people would contact the sender/post office.

I've always had to show ID when signing - maybe the rules are different according to the carriers etc.

Re: My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid

I'm with Thing2 here. I don't think its entirely fair to bad mouth the buyer without knowing both sides of the story. All we know is what Phoenix tells us here. I am, in no way, implying that Phoenix is not being truthful but its possible that even she does not know the full CORRECT story of what happened on the buyers end.

When signing for a package at my door I have had never had to show ID. They just want "proof" that it was accepted by someone ANYONE at the address on the package. Its a whole other thing if I have to pick something up at the post office. In that case, not even my husband can pick up the package, only me. I would not be surprised to find out that either the postal carrier forged the signature, ripped the ring out of the package, and left the package or someone else did. Have they compared the signature on the slip stating that the package was received to one that they know belongs to the buyer? Probably not yet. I can imagine that this is something the US postal inspector would do.

Anyway, I hope that the postal inspector gets to the bottom of this eventually.

I can't believe I'm about to do this - Thing2, I am going to have to diagree with you :o (who would've thought this day would ever come?!)

It sounds to me as though the receiver did not return the damaged/opened package back to her PO - despite repeated correspondance from Phoenix. She also ignored all e-mails and phone calls. I'm certainly not saying she had a hand with the ring going missing - but that said, I definitely think she is being highly inconsiderate and has a serious lack of regard for someone else's time and patience. Phnoenix gave her over a month to write back. That's plenty of time in my opinion.

How could you?! :cheeky:

Since I'm the type of person who takes a month to return something (even when it's expensive and I want the money!), I totally get not being able to make it to the post office for a couple of weeks. It just took me 3 and a half weeks to return $150 worth of stuff to an online store. And I thought the buyer did go to the post office and fill out whatever forms she needed to?

Anyway, this thread really rubs me the wrong way. There are an awful lot of accusations flying around and the other PSer's side of the story hasn't been told.

Re: Re:

There are always three sides to every story. I think it is unfair to be the judge, jury, and punisher without hearing from all involved parties. It is a shame this happened. Someone is being deceived which is never a good feeling, but this seems like a private matter.

They do have the option to speak their side here... not that I would come and do so at this point... but no one is preventing it either. If it was more important to "have that side" than ignore/hide, it would already be here, right?

Oh come on-the accusatory tone in almost every post in this thread would keep any reasonable person from getting involved. I have no stake in this-I don't personally know Phoenix and I have no idea who the other PSer is. But like I said, this thread rubs me the wrong way.

I am the Lorax-I speak for the trees!

Re: My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid

I am so sorry that this happened and it sounds like almost a lost cause.

I don't want to crucify anyone but seriously... how busy can you possibly be to not be able to reply to an email. All you have to say is .. sorry haven't gotten to it yet. I have friends who reply to email the day after giving birth! Heck, people reply to emails even when they are really ill. Something funky is going on here ... either they are guilty or just pure selfish. No loss to them so they don't care.

It is true that packages can be signed for by almost anyone. I've had DHL packages delivered to a neighbor on a different street (same neighborhood!) so they could sign since I wasn't home.

I have not answer my dad's e-mail from Monday, I have not answer my best friend facebook post from 3 weeks ago, I have not answer my best friend from my hometown in Mexico in 6 months ( now I'm to embarrassed to even answer  ) some people just don't like to answer. I don't even answer my husband's e-mail. I only answer because he will text me, call me none stop until I answer. He really knows me  .

Maybe she did not answer her e-mail and calls because she did not have anything new to say about it. I don't think is about being selfish, it's about priorities in life. I honestly if someone has come here to imply I stole something. I would not do anything to help her to solve the situation.

Ditto this, especially the bolded part. You catch more flies with honey.

Re: My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid

I re-read some of the comments and I do see how a few PSers speculate she stole the ring, which I definitely don't agree with. I can see why that rubs you the wrong way, Thing. BUT, I have a hard time believing that if someone asked you to help them on something time sensitive, you would wait several weeks to respond. I am horrible in responding to emails and facebook messages myself and I really don't see how it is relevant to this situation.

This person accepted a damaged package and took over a month to return it to the PO. While someone else is waiting to file a claim on it, which, mind you, is time sensitive. If she was truly so busy, then she shouldn't have asked to buy the ring from Phoenix. You just dont leave someone hanging.

Anyways, sounds like it's all settled now. Glad you are making some progress, Phoenix!
