My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid!!

Re: My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid

Yikes. I kinda feel guilty & dirty and I have nothing to do with it! Its hard to imagine someone trying to pull off a straight up THEFT in full view of the PS peanut gallery. Hope its just a misunderstanding -- and that it all works out w/the insurance claim (or return of a miraculously "found" ring). :read:

Re: My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid

That's terrible and even worse that it's a PS'er!!! :nono:

Re: My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid

Phoenix...let me be nosy. how much money does she owe you?

Re: My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid

Phoenix, this is horrible and to think it is a PSer to boot. I do hope you recover your money ASAP. xoxox

Re: My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid

I actually feel ashamed for whoever she is. A PSer? Geez. I'm sitting here, shaking my head. I'm so sorry this happened to you Phoenix.

Re: My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid

The power of "social pressure" may just do the trick.
I hope you get your claim approved soon Phoenix!

Re: My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid

This is really unfortunate and I'm sorry you and the buyer are both in this position. I hope you're able to rectify the situation quickly.

Re: My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid

I'm really sorry this happened to you, Phoenix. The fact that it's a PSer really upsets me, to be honest.

I hope this gets cleared up for you soon!

Re: My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid

You said that the buyer sent photos of the package and showed how it had been tampered with. Can we see those photos? I am curious to know what made her think it had been messed with. What did she say happened when she opened it?

Re: My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid

Yes would love to see pics of the package.. What did the Post Office have to say??

Re: My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid

Now that I think abt it, there's some more infor:

There is an an email in my Inbox from the recipient (dated 10th June, ie the day before I sent the ring) asking me to send the ring directly to her home address. I was going to send it via a third party (the plan was that I'd send the ring to them, then get the recipient to send the money to the 3rd Party before the latter releases the ring to her). As I mentioned before, there were some hiccups so plans to send the ring only solidified somewhat the day before I sent it (and even on that day, I wasn't even sure I had the time to go to the PO to send it as my flight to SH was in the afternoon and I had a ton of other things to do). There was some perceived issue with US customs (by one of the 3rd P's I was going to use) so maybe that was why the recipient asked me to send the item directly to her home address but now that I've had a chance to think about it, that should've rung alarm bells and I really should not have sent it directly to her. To be fair though, she did ask me to send a Paypal request to her but given that I wasn't even sure I was going to be able to send the ring the morning of 11th June and I was rushing around on 11h June and had checked out of the hotel room prior to that, I didn't have the opportunity to invoice her. Perhaps I really should've tried a find a way, with hindsight.

I really should've stuck with my plan to send via a 3rd P. I did the next best thing, or so I thought, of making sure that the counter staff at my local SG PO - where they know me quite well - saw me put the Tiffany ring into the dark blue suede box before putting that into the Robin egg blue box before putting the whole thing into the big PO packaging. She even insisted on sealing the box with the PO "security stickers" which I initialled my name over. I thought, what can possibly go wrong?!! Obviously, I was clearly too optimistic or naive or both!!

Well, despite all of this, I'm still hoping that the recipient is innocent!! She needs to do is go make that claim at her local PO - refusal to go or to communicate with me is not doing her any good.

Could you guys tell me something? As you know, I've already filed with the people in SG. Do you know if the recipient is required/ allowed to file at her own PO? From her email of the 26th, she says that they told her she didn't need to. I find that very strange, since basically she's accusing them of tampering which is a very serious federal offence - so why don't they care?

Re: My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid

So sorry to hear this!

But a good lesson to learn, even if the recipient is not guilty. Crazies are on PS too! Heck, if I were villianous, this would be the PERFECT place I would come to charm the pants off people and somehow find a way to steal their stuff!

People come on here not only to show off bling, but obviously because they LUST for bling. Maybe the green eyed monster got the best of an ordinarily good person and she decided to that people who could afford it won't be too badly off if the ring should be "stolen?"

I hope you get your money Phoenix...this really sucks.

Re: My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid

Maisie and Kaleigh, I could but I think I'd have to block out her name and address first (at least the parts that show it - I think there *may* be pics that show our addresses, I'll have to check tomorrow). Besides, she might get very angry. I'd need to think abt it.

Anyway, it's very late here. I need to go to bed. I am obvious upset, not really abt the money (which is not a huge amount) but more abt the fact that I might/ may have been ripped off!! To think that I trusted a PSer enough and this happened!! :((

If the recipient is reading this, I hope that you understand where I'm coming from. It is not my intention to land you into any kind of trouble, esp with the police. Just try and see if from my point of view. If you are really innocent, pls do something about it. Your silence and refusal to co-operate are not helping.

I'm not trying to wag a finger at you because I think this is really an unfortunate situation. However, I think it was really really unwise to show the PO staff what you were putting in the package, even if they "know" you.

I understand what you're saying, HH. Usually, I'd get someone else to witness me put the items into the box (as I have done several times before) before I take the complete and sealed up package to the PO or to FedEx, but that time I was just in a real rush. I figured I'd be ok since 1) she's a long term employee at that PO and 2) crimes do not pay in SG. For a theft like that, the person could go away for months/ even years. Just as an aside, but a relevant point, last week a man was murdered and the police found the 8 murderers within 27 hours (yeah, they're that good) and it is a certainty that all these 8 will be executed. Sure, I'm not saying that murders and thefts fall in the same category. I'm simply saying that in SG, the punishment does not fit the crimes and most of the time, most people stay well clear of committing any kind of offence - no matter how small - because chances of them being found guilty (and they are presumed guilty before proven innocent) are very high. That is why SG is prob the safest country (if not one of the safest) in the world and the crime rate is extremely low.

Re: My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid

Relating to your question on who should do the filing in case of insurance issue (thief or damage). A watch I purchased online from a private seller came damaged. The shaking of the package must have broken the balance staff and the watch does not work anymore. I did not want to return the watch so I tried to file the claim with my local office as the buyer, but they told me the SELLER must file the claim with proof of insurance paid. What I need to do is to turn in the original packaging material and the watch so they can investigate IF they broke it or not.

The buyer of your ring really should cooperate better with you, but she can't file a claim on your behalf.

I hope it gets resolved soon.

Re: My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid

Phoenix I hope that you can get this resolved amicably very soon.

Please let me use this as an opportunity to remind everyone that although you may think you know everyone here, some people may not be as they seem. It is very easy to spin stories on an internet forum and unfortunately Pricescope is not immune to this.

I hope that is not the situation in this case but it is always a possibility.

Please keep this in mind when posting to keep everyone safe.

Very wise advice Ella, thanks for the reminder. ;))

Re: My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid

phoenix so sorry to hear this...I hope you get it all straightened out!

Re: My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid

Phoenix,

That is awful!

I feel like I know a bunch of the people here on PS too and probably would have sent it just like you did. I'm sorry the person turned out to be either dishonest or flaky -- hopefully she really is just very busy and will work with you to correct the situation.

Re: My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid

Again, so sorry Phoenix, it stinks that it is one of us...

Re: My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid

This is horrible, it makes me sick to read it. I am sorry you are having to deal with this Phoenix.

Re: My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid

i wouldn't be able to sleep at night if i had stolen somebody else's jewelry. :nono:

Re: My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid

Seeing as how I buy/sell on that very same site, I'm very interested in knowing more about this. I actually eyed your Metro ring, but I'm very iffy about sending things overseas, and try to avoid it as much as possible. After my incident with Big Blue, I always ALWAYS ALWAYS get a delivery confirmation number and insurance if it is over an amount that I'd be ok with paying, out of pocket. I have never ever ever sent anything to anyone without making them pay for it first, except for my BFF, because I know he's good for it, but someone across the country that I know on PS? Not a chance.

One thing I have learned through my long ordeal with Big Blue, is that you'd need to contact the Postal Inspector. The police will just tell you to go there, but I learned that the Postal Inspectors are DAMN SERIOUS BUSINESS. They are essentially USPS's own personal police force and they take their job VERY seriously. Also, because I know a USPS delivery guy I know that if a registered piece of mail goes missing or the package is tampered with, the delivery person (or other employee, whoever's paper trail it runs out at) will be fired. Opening someone else's mail is a felony here in the US.

Having said all of that, this was international mail. Totally different story, so I don't know what to tell you.

Freke, does that mean you don't trust me?

Re: My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid

Oh no Phoenix, I am so sorry about this! I hope that you are able to get to the bottom of this and get your ring back. I am thinking about you, fingers crossed!

International mail is something I have never dealt with. I am guessing it is a whole different story..
BUT why was it sent uninsured?? Or am I getting that wrong...

I really feel bad for you P. Hoping this is solved soon. I know this is a hard lesson to learn... BUT you have taught us all an important lesson.

I HOPE the PS'er does the right thing...
One can hope anyway...

Maybe she can send it back, no questions asked, and that's that??

IDK, guessing that would be a perfect world... ::)

Re: My stolen Tiffany Metro ring - I can't get my claim paid

I was actually going to say the same thing as H_H just said. To show them what you are putting in there is unwise - should have been all packed and ready to go when you walked in the PO. A very unfortunate yet expensive incident...
