My pearl got a beat up badly!!!

Does anyone know if a pearl can be repolished? On the way home it came out of its plastic container and spent some time rolling around my trunk along with other articles from my bag... coins, keys...

Hoping it can be polished...

It depend on the kind of pearl and how much polish. Some jewelers use a wheel and red rouge to polish pearls sometimes it can even remove a flaw. But this doesn''t work for akoya pearls just for pearls like tahitian and south sea pearls. Also they can use the walnut shell or the corn in a polishing machine. The pearls are polished already before they are sold with this way.
