Well my partner had given me this lovely ring a few months ago. It belonged to his dear mother. He believes it to be a 1.10 carat diamond ring. It has a lovely sparkle and love it and wanted to wear it but it's too big and was thinking of maybe getting a new band for it or something. Instead of buying a whole new ring thought I would get her revamped instead and keep her in the family :)

Looking for inspiration to bringing this beauty back to life! Also would love to see everyone else 1.10 carat solitaires to lush over!! Xxx20200301_201443.jpg20200301_201431.jpg20200301_201359.jpg20200301_201416.jpg

congrats, what a lovely ring and sentiment! do you know what you want in terms of style and metal color for the setting?

you could always have it resized and polished to bring it back to sparkling condition if you want to take your time deciding and wear it in the meanwhile (and if you're sizing down may be able to get credited for the gold that's removed to offset the cost)

I absolutely LOVE it. If I were you, I would just get it sized to fit your finger and, as @bludiva said, just have them "spruce" it up and you should wear it just as it is. Beautiful, beautiful ring!

What a great gift!!! Do you have any ideas? Look for inspiration pix of what you like first. Gold color and texture, modern vs vintage style or a refined classic, do you want a twist of some sort such as hidden stones in the profile, or a pave shank... give people ideas for them to be able to better help you. But I am sure you will get great help anyhow. Congratulations!!!

I hate to be the "problem-poster" today but I just think this stone should stay in this mounting. It is such a fabulous knife-edge, with a substantial shank, and beautiful, bright yellow gold, with a white metal basket (lovely basket) and prongs. I don't know... I wouldn't mess with perfection beyond a sizing and polish....

I just don’t know, maybe I will just get it resized to fit me and a clean and polish, and maybe in the future I will maybe get it revamped.
How does the diamond look? What do you think is clarity, colour etc of the stone is? I live on a wee island so my jewellers is across the sea from me so can’t pop in to see him with it and don’t know when I’m next over and is 3 hrs drive unfortunately.

It's always hard to tell from photos. But it definitely looks very colorless. I don't see a tint of anything it it! Also, I think it has a small table and high crown, which I looooooove. That's what caught my attention immediately. As for cut, hard to say, but I would guess that, given it's age, it's not going to be an "ideal cut", there was no such thing at the time, in the context of what we think of in that way today. Before cut became known as "king", people went for color and clarity if they wanted to get "the best". I don't know what the clarity is, but the color looks very fine. This is really special, congrats.

Sorry I’m thick lol but what is a “small table” and high crown?

It has to do with proportions and a certain profile. It’s a preference, but also known to lend itself well to being a fiery stone (flashes of colored light).

I love your new ring! Plus the sentiment behind it makes it even better. The setting is classic and also modern with gold being popular again (thank goodness!) plus the platinum head? Swoon. I’m a sucker for solitaires ( I have one!) and the diamond looks wonderful. Double bonus. Resize, really good polish and enjoy it!

Would love to see everyone else’s 1.09 or simular diamonds , I love drooling over them x

it looks really nice in the photos!

HI:

Classic solitaire. Beautiful ring. What's not to love?

Size it to whatever finger you choose to wear it on (this is a lovely choice given it is an heirloom) and ROCK it!

cheers--Sharon

It also has this stamped inside if anyone can make it out and what it means?20200301_224509.jpg

HI:

You asked for others to share their rings of a certain size.......A thread of interest? 98 pages of superyum

cheers--Sharon

Gorgeous ring & setting, but if you want a change don't feel bad!
Look thru threads of show me the bling or pinterest etc to get an idea of what you like. Maybe the jeweler can bring in a few settings for the next time you can travel over there.

That is a perfect solitaire. At least resize and wear it before you change the setting. You won’t find a more beautiful solitaire 2tone IMO.

Beautiful; would love to see more pictures! I’m also in the camp of ‘loving the setting as-is‘. I think I would give it a ‘spa treatment’ at a trusted jeweler (prong check, resizing & polishing), and see what you think about it then. If, after some time, you decide you still want something different, you’ll have had time to get to know the diamond and give plenty of thought to potential setting styles vs rushing into something.

Wow!! I would polish, check, restore as necessary...and then wear the heck out of that ring! It's my favourite solitaire setting and a fabulous size :kiss2:

So pretty!!! You are a lucky girl. I would size the ring and then take your time and decide if you like the setting. If you decide to reset, make sure that the diamond is taken out carefully, so you can sell it, or repurpose it with another stone. Its very pretty and yes its 18k gold!!

I doubt anyone would have refinished the ring unless it had a new owner, it is yours now.

The diamond looks particularly well made; I would want it graded, sure enough & unless there is reason for official paper, you might just ask the jeweler who will renew the ring for an opinion.

I agree! Just size, polish and professionally clean. So pretty.

Tried to get my phone to magnify the shank, it didn't work. Could be British with all the Hallmarks. If you can enlarge, you can Google the specific Hallmarks they'll create a little story for you.

I agree its def. European, most likely British. They stamp stuff with a lot of picturea and symbols to date and show the location of manufacture.

Beautiful diamond and classic, classic setting. Buy some noodles and wear it around until you can get it resized and polished. What a wonderful heirloom!
