I am still trying to figure out if this is K-L or M-N or O-P range stone. What do you think?

ZhuUnknown.jpg

It''s hard to tell from photos. Color is not graded from face up. The most body color I see is in the lower left picture so it all depends on your camera''s ability to capture tint. It also depends on things like fluoro or not. Anything can impact the appearance of color. A lower color grade could appear whiter than a higher grade.

But if you''re wondering how it appears, considering 1) It would show more color than a round brilliant and 2) it seems of sufficient size to show body color it does have, I think it''s probably in the faint tint range rather than the very light yellow. From face up, there is not full on visible yellow (to me). There''s no telling the real color grade but to my eyes it faces up more like a KLM. I am not a professional. I''m just basing it on my visual experience as an owner and semi-frequent viewer of diamonds in real life and online.

Thanks Jox!
The funny thing is, even on profile view it looks different in color depending on what lighting condition (kind of cool really). Here it looks really dark!
Do you have a OMC also? WHere is the thread on your beauty?

Here it looks whiter.

pretty ring! I couldn''t guess what colour range it might be though...

It looks more like a transitional diamond with the pointed culet. It is very difficult to tell from the photos what the color may be, I''m guessing around a K. I

My first thought upon opening the thread was "that''s not an omc!"

Zhuzhu, I know you''ve been searching for an omc lately and, though finding some pretty pieces, have not had much luck. I don''t think you''re saving much $$ by using the hit or miss ebay auctions. Maybe ask Jewels by Erica Grace to find you something within your price range. I''m sure they would be happy to help (for a small commission) and then you could be assured what you wanted was what you got. Good luck from another vintage stone lover!!!

If I had my guess I''d say maybe an M color? Is that an OMC? It doesn''t look like it in the pics, but maybe the angle is just off. It''s gorgeous either way.

Darn it! Did I get the name wrong again? All I know is that it is from the 1920''s, 6.7 by 6.5, and looks like a cushion therefore I call it mine cut. I need to do a lot more

You are prob right that it is not OMC, I named it OMC because of the outline of the diamond and that it is from 1920ish. Actually I am not looking for any particular "type" of cut, but rather just old cut in general. When I see pic of your collection I am green with envy!

LOL.... you are sooo cute Zhu! It''s not an OMC and for the color... really difficult to say from a picture!

I guess I am the Pricescope rebel who reallu likes how something look, and then reverse the process to find out what it is?

This punky diamond is really weard, it keeps on changing color and even shapes on me (due to bouncing of light on the pavillion). I wish there are more warm -color old cut diamonds on Pricescope so we can all have a party!

Here''s my example for you. It is a 1.04 M oec.

Here it is looking very yellow.

Thanks ladies, but they''re all the same stone. The left hand ring is the original mounting I purchased her in. The middle ring is a suspension setting that someone had made for it. I purchased the stone back and had Singlestone make the hammered 22k gold mounting on the right.

That is a pretty amazing journey I bet!
What are the stats on the lucky diamond with 3 outfits?

1.04ct M VS old european cut, measures 6.3mm

It is lovely and very close to perfectly round. I wonder why my OEC/Transitional diamond was cut into oval shape?

Do you like your current YG setting the most? Do you find the yg to enhance the color or making it whiter in person?

OEC are always round...

Your diamond is not an OEC Zhu. It's not an OMC either.

It's transitionnal cut between OEC and modern cut.

No. You''re actually someone who just likes calling things whatever the heck you want.

I''ll join your party!!

we really should not try grading your stone from pictures - but for fun - here is my OMC which is an M for comparison

he is looking particularly warm in this shot - and this is as warm as he gets - most of the time he looks like vanilla icecream
18.gif

I love how these warmer stones change their hue according to the weather and the light - my stone shoots AB rainbows under those halogens found in some restuarants and stores

at first glance - to my eyes - the table of your stone is not small enough to be an OMC - and then there is no cutlet - maybe the setting is giving it the look of an old miner shape??

Heliotrope, your ring is stunning!

heliotrope that is gorgeous!!!!

Beautiful stones, and settings, in this thread.

The sweetie in my avitar was graded as a "P". It is a light buttery yellow indoors and pretty white outdoors (usually). Maybe that helps.

Very nice Zhuzhu! Hard to guess the color though.

Beautiful "warmer oldie diamonds", everyone!
36.gif

If fount the trick is to NOT wear it together, or on the same hand, with another diamond ring that is H-I or above. The difference does not make a good contrast but rather distracting.
