So this ring has been in a shop window for over 7 months. I thought about it today and thought why not. I decided to layby it. I couldn’t help but notice the velvet blue sparkles when I tried it on. I have no idea how much it’s worth. Could be at IMG_6273.jpeg329F8C9B-EF34-45DB-90BF-3893F8BFAC32.jpegleast 7ct Natural Blue Sapphire. I haven’t seen many like this but when the price is right you just have to take the chance. I looked through the loupe and can see slight inclusions and it has some abrasions to the facets but I know a great gem polisher that can fix this no issues. I can’t wait to pick it up and get a valuation done.

It really is a lovely ring! May I ask the ballpark figure of what you paid? I'll be honest, my immediate thought was that the sapphire looked like a simulant. HOWEVER, I could be way off base. The stone would need to be examined in person by an accredited G.G. I simply felt a duty to mention it jussssst in case there was a .01% chance my hunch could be correct. But again, the piece is quite handsome!

I paid $3k AUD and they also tested the gem with his gadgets. I feel pretty confident that it’s a natural sapphire. I have 4 other blue sapphires so I think it’s genuine. It had inclusions also similar to what I have with my others.
Thanks

Ok, just be careful.

But if you're satisfied, then I hope you enjoy it!!

That seems a super price!

Yes I agree it’s an amazing price. I don’t think they realise and that’s why I snapped it up.
I do believe it’s a genuine sapphire, not sure if heated. The sapphire isn’t as Royal Blue as the one you have pictured but there’s definitely that velvety royal blue when I tilt the stone around under the lights. This ring has been well worn and definitely needs a polish to make it look like new again.

I concur that the price is fantastic. I believe they are unaware of it, which is why I grabbed it. I'm not sure if it's heated, but I do think it's a real sapphire.

Do you have 2 accounts, OP? This one says you are a trade member...

Hey everyone,
So I decided to pick up my Vintage Blue Sapphire early. I just couldn’t wait any longer.
It’s divine. I love the blue flashes it gives off under the lights. Here are some more photos. Wow what a bargain for $3k Aud! This will stay in my collection. I now have 5 sapphire diamond rings all different shades of blue. I always wanted a darker one though.

The setting is really nice. But who is togaexpel?

That’s interesting I just saw that message from Togaexpel. That is not me.

Not sure. Maybe they made a mistake and wrote “l grabbed it” instead of “you grabbed it”. Making you think I wrote it ha ha.That’s the only sense I can make of the message.

No, they didn’t make a mistake. It’s a bot account that uses chatgpt to write messages. That’s why they don’t make sense.

Ok no problemo

What the actual F is happening lol

would a bot know to come back to the post and edit it?

Oh yes! That's the whole idea behind it. There are different levels of sophistication, but the goal of such a bot account is to create spam without anyone noticing. Such posts pop up occasionally, and you notice them if you look close enough - always same day accounts, always first posts, always something clearly written by AI. The goal is that it flies under the radar and then the account re-edits the post at a later time to add a spam link.

Of course, with PriceScope's limited editing window this becomes impossible, which is why I'll always be in favour of keeping the limitation, even though people have suggested its removal.

Not to say your suspicion is implausible or entirely out of the realm of possibilities, but the fact that the account is freshly, newly registered when they created a nonsensical post makes me believe spam bot and chatgpt.

Yes, 100% spam. The genuine quoted text was edited to include a link to cr*zy-ca*tle.co. I've reported it, but it may be too late for the moderators to remove it.

For the record, here's a copy of the end of the quote (unlinked and '*'ed to remove any risk):
h*tps://www.gemsny.com/sapphires/7.00-Carat-Cushion-sapphire-S43041CU/?sku=88799&type=&prong=&selectedBand= cr*zy ca*tle

Almost certainly, the link was there from the start, hidden in plain sight at the end of the genuine quoted link. No re-editing necessary.

These are the red flags: brand-new account; first post; trade banner; vacuous or nonsensical AI-generated text; link. The link can be in the main text, edited into quoted text (as here), or even in white, so it's invisible (but not to search engines' web crawlers, which is the point). I usually look out for these and report them, but I missed this one.

Does…. This kind of weird ass spamming work? Like, are there people who click the links?? There must be or why bother??

I didn't even notice! You have a good eye!

The idea isn't for people to click on the links.

You know SEO, right? Search Engine Optimisation. The idea is you want your website to have one of the top spots among search engine results. One of the things that raises the credibility of your website and makes it seem more trustworthy is if it has been referenced in another website that is already trustworthy - such as PS.

The goal is for the link to end up on PS but remain hidden and unnoticed by anyone so it doesn't get reported and removed.

Since PS implemented new rules for new accounts (there hasn't been an announcement, but one draws conclusions when one makes keen observations) and now fresh accounts cannot post links and I believe also images without the post going through mod approval first.

In this case the bot quoted a post that already has a link inside, which appears to bypass this protection. Then it goes back and re-edits the already public post.

Ahhhhh. Thanks, I hate it.

I’m starting to think my sapphire is synthetic lol. There was like 60 years worth of gunk I cleaned from behind the stone as it was all trapped making me think they were inclusions. Now the stone is very clean and inclusion free. I can see some inclusions but my 10x loupe isn’t picking it all up. In all honesty I just love the ring and don’t want to let it go. I would be much more annoyed if I had paid double or 3 x the amount but it’s full of Vs old cuts and weighs 7 grams in platinum so I’m still happy with it.
The colour flashes are so intense it just can’t be real. Also I have one of those diamond selector 2 diamond testers. It tests the exact same as all my other natural precious stones so this confuses me. I will eventually get a valuation done.
Does heating a stone dissolve most internal inclusions that look like dust/dirt?
I also did the breath test and the fog went away within 2 seconds.

Without the benefit of seeing it in person, I'm still extremely suspicious that it is a simulant (glass or CZ). It doesn't even look like lab grown/synthetic material to me. I didn't want to push it earlier since you seemed to think it was natural. But if you really did pay $3,000 for it, you should get it properly tested or return it if you are uncertain. No need to pay that price for a used mounting (do we even know if those are genuine diamonds?). What does the metal stamp say?

I'll admit I was relatively certain it was a PSer with both a buyer and trade account. Thank you for quieting my cynical brain.

Good on you for spotting that!!
