I had the honor and privilege of meeting with both Whiteflash and Brian Gavin today. Since both vendors are so popular on Pricescope, I thought that I would share my experiences with those of you who are less fortunate and aren''t lucky enough to live in Houston! *wink*

Both Whiteflash and Brian Gavin Diamonds are both located in the same office building. In fact, it is as if the entire 9 floor office building is composed of jewelers, gemologists, appraisers, etc. There was actually a Houston Police Officer on guard downstairs and cameras literally everywhere. I did not inform either that I would be meeting with the other company. Each meeting was roughly 1 hour and 15 minutes. My soon to be fiance and I both thoroughly enjoyed both meetings. Nothing, and I mean nothing tops being able to actually see the diamonds hands on. Many of the things that I doubt and worry about online, where easily put to rest when you see those babies close up! I am 99.9999% sure that we found a diamond.

First of all, Mr. Gavin was a hoot! He was very personable and some what of a joker. He even threw in some "free" relationship advice! He shared some of his family''s history as diamond cutters. He shared with us that he used to play marbles with rough diamonds as a kid. Can you imagine! His knowledge and expertise for diamond cutting are unquestionable. Like he said, "its in my blood." He placed all three stones that we were looking at on my finger and took me throughout the shop so that I could see the stones in various lightening conditions. He had some really cool "natural light" bulbs that allowed me to see the stones performance in "normal" lightening. We were also able to view the hearts and arrows of each stone using a desktop idealscope. Mr. Gavin also took us on a tour of the shop afterwards and we got to see an actual mold being made which was pretty darn cool!

The Whiteflash experience was second to none! I don''t impress easily and boy was I ever impressed! You entered into a small lobby with cameras and an intercom system. I buzzed in and said that I had an appointment. A pleasant voice responded back with, "yes Ms.xxxxx, we are expecting you." Seconds later, the Vice-President of the company greeted us and took us back to his office. The same "natural light" bulbs were used in the office. He also had a really cool small halogen light on his desk that showed me "unrealistic" lightening that most jewelry stores use. Whiteflash had the desktop idealscope also. After we viewed the diamonds, we got to go on a really cool tour of the Whiteflash offices. We met every single employee who wasn''t off for the holiday. Everyone seemed very genuine and nice. We saw every inch of the place! When we went into the photography room, we got lucky because the photographer was in the process of shooting (2) four carat rounds! Boy were they some beauties! I was scared to hold them!

I''m almost sad that I will only be buying from one! Maybe we will get the soon to be fiance''s wedding band from which ever jeweler we don''t use for the engagement ring.

Anyway, I just thought that I would share my experiences with you guys!

p.s. I''ll update you on which stone I chose later. I don''t want to rave about it on Pricescope before I get it and someone else snatch it up! I can''t wait until it is on my finger for good!

I would love to. It is my only beef with buying online -- not being able to see the sparklies and pick with my eyes!

What a great adventure legallyspoiled!

What a fun and imformative trip! So...give us some hints about which diamond you selected! Got any links to it?

I will say that I ended up going with a lower color and clarity than I originally planned. We only looked at Hearts and Arrows ideally cut stones so everything faced up white. It was very difficult to see the color variation unless you were viewing the diamond from the side or when it was face down. It was very obvious face down but when will anyone ever see it like that? I also felt 100% comfortable going with a lower quality, an SI1. It was completely eye clean to me within a few inches of my face and I could hardly see anything through the loupe. At the start of my search, I was actually looking for an SI1. However, I kinda got scared off looking at images online. Again, I can''t emphasize enough how much easier it is to find a mind clean stone in person! Of course it doesn''t hurt when you have such a high caliber of diamonds to choose from!

Sounds like you had a blast! Can''t wait to see what stone you pick.

Gosh, you got to go on the ultimate shopping trip!

How fun!

Both vendors have fantastic customer service online so can only imagine how great they are in person.

When DH was in Dubai a few years ago he went diamond shopping and says it was an amazing experience to see so many loose diamonds up so close to pick out perfect one.

He talked about flying there when we got engaged to get a diamond - I declined at time to get a diamond at all but we will still look when we do travel there in the next couple years to look at least even if don''t buy - just to see them so many so close would be awesome!

Glad you found one - can''t wait to see it!

wow I am so jealous. I would LOVE to see all of their beauties in person. I am currently working with Liza from WF on a project and she is the BEST!!! Patient and quick to respond, can''t ask for more than that!!! Can''t wait to see what you chose. When are you planning on having it on your finger??!!

That is so cool that you got to see both places. I''ve worked with BGD and Whiteflash and have been really impressed with the customer service and the quality of their work. You can''t go wrong with either of them.

so envious too! you''re super lucky!

I would have loved to meet Leslie and Brian! That must have been amazing!

Do you think actually viewing the diamonds may make your df consider upping the budget slightly?

It is hard to say whether being able to physically view the stones before buying influenced us to increase the budget slightly. It was more of a "oh my gosh...that is the one...we gotta find a way to make this happen!" I think that I would have probably felt the same way if I had found the stone online. It is more likely that I would have excluded the diamond online because it was outside of our color and clarity range.

I am so jealous, especially meeting Brian Gavin and getting a tour of his shop!

What a fun day! I would absolutely LOVE to visit WF and BGD someday.

Very cool! I would love to visit either place! I can''t wait to see what you end up with!

if i ever had to visit houston, bgd would be my first stop! then, i would check out wf :]

When I get to Houston, I am planning to stop in and see Lesley and Brian. Did they have mounting samples for you to try? How about Whiteflash, did you try on all their pretties?
