My IG account was hacked - beware

This is just a PSA because I had some folks from PS in there.

The account was hacked in the middle of the night, everything about it was changed, and I doubt that it's recoverable, since IG are notoriously bad with such cases.

The handle was changed from ** (which some of you knew) to **please do not post personal handles for your own safety** - so if you used to follow me, check your lists for this account and remove it. Don't interact with it, don't respond to messages from it, it has been hacked and might be onto god know what. Just straight up block it.

I don't really care. That account only existed so that I can talk to some PS folks and ogle gems, it had nothing on it and was completely anonymous. The greatest loss is the message history. And since they changed my handle, I can just make a new one with the same name. So don't be surprised if you receive a new follow from me, just as long as I can find you again.

Oh gosh how annoying. Thank god there wasn't anything sentimental about your account.

A friend of mine had her account compromised a while ago. Then they demanded a ransom. Needless to say she made sure everything has a two factor authentication now.

Yep, I enabled it as well. Usually I don't bother with accounts that are low value such as IG but I figured having to make a third account in the future, were this to occur again, would be more of an inconvenience than setting up the 2FA now.

For anything of value - 2FA through an authenticator app and a secondary option through email.

Please explain to me exactly where the promotional link in my post is.

Please explain what private information has been disclosed in my post.

The only thing you've managed to accomplish right now is get the username of a hacked account deleted. A username which was not and is not mine. A username which can be used by the hacked account to message people malicious links, and therefore they need to know and be extra cautious.

Please explain how any of your interference in this has been useful for anyone.
