HI EVERYONE!

14k yellow gold heart shaped stud earring with heart faceted purple amethyst studs 5mm.jpg

Got these for myself as a birthday gift in July of this year.

Bought them from a seller on Etsy who sells vintage jewellery with prices ranging from $150 CAD(I live in Canada) to over $3000 CAD depending on the gold karat and the which gemstone is in the item or set with diamonds

Love these and wear them often and was wondering what the grade quality might be for the purple amethyst might be in these earrings.

They are set in 14k yellow gold and are 5mm in size.

Would that 0.50 carat total weight in the gemstone?

Am not a jeweller nor do I sell jewellery, but I have a love of jewellery and have become familiar with very good quality pieces.

Amethyst(the purple and original and true name for amethyst) is my favourite gemstone.

Wanted to find out what people think of these earrings.

And very nice site btw and I am a long time jewellery lover too.

We don't see a lot of discussion about Amethyst on these boards which is a shame. I think Amethyst has been so affordable for so long (although times change) that it just doesn't get the respect it deserves. I don't think anyone could argue that Bron's Amethyst with opal halo is a stunning specimen and can hold It's own against any other colored stones just fine. I would LOVE to find an Amethyst that deep of purple and hope to. My only Amethyst ring was from an ex and I pretty much destroyed it by never taking it off and abrading the stone so badly. I didn't realize at the time I could even do that.

I think your earrings are very sweet. It's hard to comment on the quality as the only image you shared shows a tilt window within the gems and washes out the color a bit. Wear them in good health and enjoy!

Love them. Purplelicious ♥️

Very pretty!

Very nice! I hope you wear them in good health for many Birthdays to come!

beautiful earrings! Congrats!

The eBay vendor I frequent :mrgreen2: often has similar / same as my lovely Amethyst ring. They aren’t “fine jewellery” as they are set in silver but the prices are very pocket friendly. These ones, starting auction prices are $65, $55 and $119. I just bid and hope to the only bidder. If not, every few days there’s more listed. Seller is in Thailand so be aware shipping is a bit slow.
I’ve bought 5 rings and 2 earrings so far!
ebay vendor is called Milanojewelry*

Managed to get a close up shot of the studs.
This is a photo from the person that I bought it from and I enlarged the photo to show detail.
Love the hue of them.
Anybody know what grade of the amethyst these are?
I'm thinking they are good quality stones and they have such a rich purple which I absolutely love.
Amethyst at one time was considered the king of gems since only royalty could wear purple.

My experience is that amethyst comes in a huge saturation range. To me your earrings would seem to be on the lower end of the scale. They have very nice color around the perimeter but might be on the light side under the table.

I find that as saturation increases, the quality of the cut becomes much more important. It is a fine line between a stone with a window vs a stone with lots of dark areas. Also fancy cuts seem to be more amenable to gorgeous uniform color than more traditional rounds and ovals.

Photos of amethyst, perhaps more so than any other gemstone, can be manipulated just by the strength of the lighting. Areas of a stone that are normally dark or even black in normal light might photo as a gorgeous purple in very bright studio lighting. On the other hand if you see a photo of a very light amethyst in an auction house catalog, you can be pretty sure it will look better in real life. Most auction houses photo all their gems under strong studio lights one after the other. They don't have time to optimize the lighting for each stone.
