I hope you're still over the moon with this sapphire. As CSpan said, perfectly imperfect. And I've been thinking about this for three days, how we forgive flaws in sapphires that would make us toss a diamond to the curb. Why? How are they so charming and magical with so much goin' on? I have a cheap green parti color that's olive green with yellow and the gold light in it keeps moving and shifting and it enchants me. I hope your amazing stone brings you years of joy and amazement. It's fabulous.

....i think we need a photo

Playing around with this guy today! Haven't made up my mind up on what to do yet. I feel like he's celestial, so toying with the idea of OMCs in a moon shape on the side. F2DEFB5B-5156-4381-A33D-38779F885680.jpeg

Open to other suggestions!

@pokerface your sapphire reminds me of mine.
I find her imperfections allow the colour to dance and sparkle through the stone. I find evenly saturated stones can be easily confused with synthetic.
I tossed and turned about having it cleaned up. I was advised by a professional cutter that it was a big job and it would end up below 8.5cts (it’s 8.63 now). She is old and turns clear side on. But in the sunlight she is stunning.
I got paper work for her but haven’t had her reset due to COVID killing my business. So she sits in a box waiting to be worn again.
I’m so glad to see you fall in love with such a lovely stone and give it a wonderful home.

Oh wow !!!

I guess after tens of thousands of years in the ground (or however long it takes to make a saphire) waiting to be dug up and cut into something beautiful im thinking your sapphire knows a thing or two about waiting

Us on the other hand, cannot wait for it to get its next life in a new setting to be worn by you

@Beautiful-disaster, thanks for sharing the kind words and photos of your beautiful sapphire! Wow, what an ethereal glow in the sun - not to mention she's huge! Perhaps you could temporarily set her back into the pendant so you could at least wear it in the meantime? She's so fabulous, and she definitely thrives in the light!

Feeing gray today!

My rendering with a post-it drawing:

What's better, N-S or E-W? Keep in mind my ering is E-W, and that E-W might only look better here because of the layout of the drawing.

I also drew my moon idea, but I'm leaning away from it as it has a more modern feel, and the sapphire has a more antique vibe which I would like to maintain.

definitely liking the EW over the NS - but it’s a personal decision - and not usually the way I would go with an oval ... but it’s a chubby oval so I do prefer it EW. Such a gorgeous inspiration ring - but yours will be even more beautiful when made I would wager.

Just beautiful! I am glad you saw something in this stone and it really paid off. I prefer N/S only because in the picture of your drawing, the color seems to shine through more. I do realize that could be an illusion though. Also, you already have your ering E/W.... so it may be nice to have it set in the opposite direction. I like the setting you drew too and I agree that the moon setting might be too contemporary for that stone.

ok...now I am changing my mind............ the more that I look at the E/W placement, I can see how the cut shines through! LOL! I don't think either way, you could go wrong. :)

I prefer N/S like the inspo for the first idea

I actually do really like the crescent moon motif. It is really romantic and strikes me as an antique style because it reminds me of the crescent moon pendants. I bet it would look delicious with OMCs

Sorta like this one in Lang antiques archives, and oviously instead of the negative space / star - the sapphire

I found a setting I think is really special! These look like OMCs to me! My plan is to see if I can swap out the turquoise for the sapphire, if not, oh well - the ring is amazing as is.

I am not sure on the exact dimensions of the ring, and anticipate the fit to be somewhere between my first and second mockups.

I would be happy to hear comments on the setting, if you think it's a good fit for my wonky sapphire (even with an air line), or if perhaps the vote would be to leave the ring in its original condition. To me, even though I usually hate messing with the original, in this case, the diamonds are screaming for an equally antique-looking center. If anyone else has an antique ring with an OMC halo, I would love to see - a quick internet search shows lots of OMCs with halos, but no OMCs in the halo itself.

I can't speak to how well a swap would work, but I can say I love the design of the halo- and I don't even care for haloes most of the time.

That's a beautiful tourquoise!
I hope you can save it

I also love the crescent moon idea- but go with your heart

Gorgeous- absolutely see the appeal. It would look stunning either as is or if you can make the swap work!

LOVE this stone! I fell hard for an unconventional sapphire, too, and I've learned over the years of collecting (i.e. hoarding) that I have little interest in conventional measures of value. What matters most is that a piece brings me joy. Please keep us posted on this gorgeously wonky beauty!

More good news: 1) the seller says this is Persian blue turquoise, which makes sense given the age, appearance, and pedigree of the ring and 2) the dimensions of the turquoise are 8.5 x 7mm whereas my sapphire is 7.5 x 7mm. I think a swap will work! :appl: :appl:

Even though it's only a mm off in one direction? The fit should be just about exactly how it looks in my first paper demonstration.

1mm in a halo isn’t nothing. Plus this is a can and you’re looking to replace it with a faceted stone. The basket rooks to be exactly as wide as the prongs which is not unusual for a cab but for a faceted stone that’s isn’t the exact shape you’d want there to be a basket under either where the prongs extend from to give yourself room to work with. Have you contacted any jewelers to get their opinions?

I haven't contacted a jeweler on this one, but I purchased the turquoise ring understanding that a swap might not work. I still think that reworking the basket might be a possibility. The turquoise already has an air line which gives a bit of room to work with the faceted sapphire. I know that if a swap does technically work, I would still have to be happy with a larger air line on the top and bottom than on the sides. Again, all TBD. I won't be (overly) disappointed if the sapphire doesn't fit.

Pretty setting. But I also express some doubt on whether a swap will work. If you love the other ring as is and are okay with looking for another setting, cool. but, 1 mm is not nothing and cab v faceted... I would be kind of super surprised if an even swap worked.

Turquoise ring is here!! :kiss2:

Last picture shows the sapphire held over the turquoise with clear tape. I feel like this ring was made for me either way, but I will be super proud if my vision works out.

Better pics of the potential swap. What's the vote, if it works, should I go for it??

I’d go for it! Love the stone in that setting!!

I’m torn..
I like your sapphire
but I like the turquoise in the ring, as is, too..

can you show an underside/side view of the ring as it is now?
