My great grandmother’s engagement ring

Here are some pictures of my great grandmother’s engagement ring I just retrieved from the safe deposit box. Diamond research here has given me a new interest in old stones.
Some background, I believe she was married in 1900. My grandfather was the second of seven children and was born in 1905. He chose her ring as part of his inheritance to pass on to me, his only granddaughter. I was afraid to wear the family heirloom when he gave it to me in my 20’s. Then when my husband and I were engaged I wanted to wear the ring he gave me. Even as a right hand ring it felt like I was wearing competing engagement rings so into the vault it went for safekeeping.
So for nearly 30 years this beautiful ring has been hidden away for fear of something happening to it!
I believe it to be her original ring but am not certain. She died in 1968 after 68 years of marriage.
So I’m wondering if anyone can give me an idea from the cut if this could have been her original engagement ring.
Unfortunately no one is still living that might have known. The last picture is with one of my earrings that is approximately .78 carat

Beautiful! Enjoy.

I am envious you get to cherish something from your great grandmother/grandfather.
It indeed looks very lovely!
The setting itself looks to me more like the 40-50-60’s then 1900’s.

There a subforum just for antiques like theses

68 years of marrage !
Wow :appl:
Its too beautiful and meaningfully to stay in that safety deposite box any longer

It's beautiful! Really pretty and special diamond. How great to have such a meaningful piece. I hope you wear and enjoy it. Had the same thought as @Rifsher, the setting looks more 40's/50's. The stone seems older than the setting to me, but I'm not an expert. Maybe the diamond was reset at some point. I hope you wear and enjoy this beauty! Too pretty to be in a box lol.

I agree that the setting looks more 40s/50s, but the diamond could definitely be circa 1900! She may have reset at some point after damage to the original setting or when styles changed.

I would wear it as a RHR - who cares if it looks like a second engagement ring? It's a beautiful heirloom.

Wowza. That is beautiful!
