My garnet from Dan came. And I''ve already lost it.

Hi all, unfortunately I won''t be posting any photos of my first Dan stone. I got the rhodolite garnet today and went outside to take a few shots of it in the daylight. As I walked onto the deck, it fell out of the little gem box I had it in, rolled along the deck boards, and I watched as it fell right through 2 boards onto the ground below (about 10 feet down). I looked for it for over an hour (even brought a flashlight out there) and can''t find it. It''s not a great color stone to lose in pine straw...

It was pretty inside, although a little darker and browner/less pink than I expected it to be. But I could tell it was beautifully cut and sparkly. I''m so annoyed with myself. You just can''t imagine. Let this be a lesson. Don''t walk outside with any stone not securely closed up!

I''m off to be really mad for a little while longer...

Oh

sorry to hear that

Maybe over time and several attempts you will still find it...Dont give up. Which was it? The cushion one he had posted?

I''ll look again but I''ve really scoured the area. It was a little round one he had - he hadn''t gotten a chance to post it yet. Thanks.

Oh no Katie, I am so sorry. I do hope you find it.

I''m so sorry, Katie. This is always my worry when I see those flower pictures of gemstones. Gems are really small so you might have to crawl on your hands and knees and feel around the earth/grass.

I am so sorry!

Gem locating Dust coming your way....

Thanks everyone! I crawled around on my hands and knees for a long time out there and no luck. My husband just got home and I told him about it and he''s out there looking for it now.

I will make you feel better! I have done the same thing and that is why I am uber cautious when taking pics outside!!! I know you will find it as I did!! Good luck!!

katie

I''m so sorry this happened to you and I hope you find it.
Just a little story though to give you hope...a while back I was about to wash my face so I decided to take off my earrings first. There is a closet right outside our bathroom so I decided to put them on a shelf in there, I took off the first one no problem and then as I took off the second one I dropped the earring back and I heard it hit something in the closet and I figured oh it''s in the closet I''ll grab it...
So I wash my face and try to now find the earring back and nothing I can''t find it anywhere I get really upset since it is a WF heavy friction back that is really secure and it is plat and I saved up like crazy to get the earrings...FI comes home from night shift I beg him to look all over the closed and around it and still nothing and I am now really sad I feel like an idiot.
After two weeks of looking I give up and call WF and ask the price to replace them and I am told they can''t sell me just one I have to get a pair and I say fine and pay $70 USD to get another set but I keep kicking myself for being so dumb and dropping the other one and losing it in the first place plus I feel like I am losing my mind since the thing just disappeared into a closet in our apartment and neither of us seems sharp enough to find it.

We even use pantyhose over the vacuum and try to vacuum and pick it up nothing we go through the vacuum bag by hand with gloves and still nothing. We give up and I start using my new backs...3 MONTHS later I get up off our couch to walk to the kitchen now the living room is a good 20 feet from the bathroom and the infamous closet and for whatever reason I look down on the ground and something sparkles a bit and catches my eye and lo and behold if it isn''t my earring back nestled in the carpet right by our coffee table...HOW IN THE WORLD it got there I''m still not sure but it turned up...so best of luck and thanks for letting me share...I have a strong feeling you will find your pretty stone!

I''m so so sorry!!

Keep looking, we all want you to find it.

oh Katie how sad. Keep looking. You''ll find it. I once lost a stone from Dan for an hour in my bath rug! I did wind up returning it because it wasn''t the color I hoped for, but I was so frustrated trying to find it. AND, it wasn''t even close to the color of the rug.

Thanks everyone for your well-wishes. No luck. I don''t understand how it has just dissapeared. Hubby and I combed over the entire area multiple times. Nothing.

Oh no! I hope you find it soon! When my mom would drop a contact and didn''t see where it landed, she''d take her other contact and try to imitate what she was doing when the other dropped, and she''d watch where the 2nd one landed, and it would always end up by the 1st one..but really, my mom''s kinda weird that way, so I''m not much help.

You guys are all so sweet. Thanks - I feel like an idiot. I was being totally careless. But thanks for all the nice comments.

I''m so sorry to hear that. I know it''s a drag, but at least it wasn''t a diamond or something worth thousands. I have three colored diamonds that fell on the kitchen floor once, that was terrifying, and they were one 40 pointer, and two 20 pointers (tiny!!), and I found them, but now I''m super paranoid about opening gem boxes. I hope you can get another one to replace it soon if you don''t find it.

I hope I can get another one too. I don''t have the money to do it now, but maybe soon. I''m so glad it wasn''t a diamond though!

Ebay has tons of rhodolites, and ebay vendor vallejo916 often cuts garnets. He's as good as Dan IMHO and he's cheaper. He doesn't do spinels like Dan, and I know there are many "Dan fans" of his specialty spinels. However a nice around 1 carat rhodolite garnet shouldn't be too difficult to find in a nice cut and for a good price, probably around $20.

Here's an American faceted one of 1.75 carats for $49 for a starting bid, but it probably would only get one bid.

Oh no!

Just an idea but wait until night and then take a flashlight and shine it vertically along the ground. It MIGHT make the stone catch the light and show itself.

I do hope you find it.

I''m so sorry the 2nd search was unsuccessful as well.

oh no!! I am so sorry for you!!
Where do you live!? I will SO come over and help you look! I hope you find it!

Oh no! How awful. I have lost quite a few lose gems myself. Some I have found, some I have not. I hope yours turns up. Maybe try at night with a flashlight - it might sparkle and you''ll find it then.

I''d try a ShopVac. Then I''d take the drum into the garage, empty it out, and sort through the pine needles and debris by hand.

Oh, Katie... so sorry!!!

Ohhh I''m so sorry! Keep trying though, maybe it will turn up one day.

Is there any possibility that it somehow got stuck between the boards?

Sorry that you lost your stone. I lost a tiny yellow sapphire in my rug...it was never seen again (and it was a blue rug!!) I hope you''re able to find it.

Great ideas ladies - I went out with a flashlight, no luck. Hubby looked with the flashlight. No luck. And I looked between the boards and it''s not there either. I bet if all of us took a 1x1 foot square, we could find it!

Anyway, I''m going to just forget about it. My neck is killing me from the strain and my knees are red from crawling around (even with pants on - that''s how much I was on the ground!). I love the idea of finding another one online - had no idea I could find one for around $20 though! Wow. Dan''s was very reasonable but not that cheap (and like I said, it was very pretty).

Anyway, thank you again to all of you. You''re so sweet and say the most thoughtful, comforting things!

That is such a bummer...I read this earlier today and came back hoping to find good news. You have a great attitude about it and I''ll still my fingers crossed that it will turn up - good karma and all.

I like PP''s idea - get a lil hand-held vacuum thing, maybe vacuum one or two feet at a time, go and empty and sort through it
and repeat. I know it sounds like a lot of work - maybe do it in a couple days when you''re not as sick of searching.

I''m so sorry Katie - and I actually feel really bad as taking photos for us pic-hungry PS''ers was the reason you lost it!
