If this were your stone, what would YOU do with it? pendant? ring? white gold? yellow gold? pink gold? HELP!

oooh, i was looking at that one and thinking how beautiful and unusual the color was - congrats!!! definitely post some pics when you get it! I love buying from Dana and you're right - he's a super guy!

I thought maybe zircon might be soft for a ring? I got a yellow one from Dana not too long ago and am having it set in a pendant.

It looks lovely and we'll be waiting for your "in hand" photos =) As to settings why not check out some of the Etsy vendors such as Sally at Heart of Water - she has an interesting range of affordable settings that might inspire if you're not particularly looking for halos...are you?

I've also looked at that one MANY times - congrats on what looks like a beauty! Let us know what you think when you get it!

Thanks KT, Starzin and NKOTB!

KT, I know a ring is not the best idea...my other zircon was bezel set (gasp!) into a ring and it went fine which is why I would consider it again :)

Starzin, I love Sally's work but I am soooo scared to send my stone off to Thailand, I don't think any PSers ever had any issues though so I'm gonna consider her because as I said I love her stuff! No not particularly looking at any style, I am totally open to suggestions :)

NKOTB - I will definitely post pics when I get it :) I really hope it's as pretty as I think it will be!

Lovely color!

I would probably be tempted to make it into a ring, so I can stare at it all the time. But it is also big enough to be really pretty and noticeable as a pendant. Actually, for me, 8.8mm may feel a little too big for a ring, but of course that's a personal preference. So I'd go for a pendant in yellow gold :)

I just contacted Heart of Water gems as well about setting. She said the setting I was considering was such that you could have it set locally, thus eliminating sending the stone out to her.

Don't decide on the colour of the gold until you see the stone. In the photos it appears to have a slight shift and this may make a difference when picking the gold.

I've got a zircon set into a ring and so long as I'm careful (and its an occasional ring) it's ok.

It's a gorgeous unusual stone. Congrats!

Very lovely stone. I had also seen that one and really like it. I would see how it looks to you in person in different lights. You shouldn't have any black outs given the cutting (well you may in full sunlight but thats kind of the nature of the beast) but, just see how it reacts.

I wouldn't bezel this one because I think its a bit too dark to do so, but thats me.

So don't keep us in suspense girl!! Which setting are you looking at? I understand your trepidation at sending something to Thailand it scares me witless as well .

Thanks for the lovely comments :)

GemFever - I know, I am tempted to put it in a ring too !BUt yea, at 8.8mm it's rather large, so I'd really have to see if it would even look nice as a ring I guess. The largest round stone I have in a ring is 8mm, add the thick bezel and I guess it's closer to 8.5-9mm and I find that plenty big so I would totally not halo or bezel this stone.

Kitten35 - Oh that's good to know, was it a Lotus setting?

LD - Absolutely, I am currently tossing between yellow gold and rose gold going by the pictures, but I do need to see it in person first. I also feel the need to branch out a little as most rings I have are white gold or palladium.

Arcadian - This seems to be an oogled at stone hahaha!! I hope nothing is wrong with it, now I am wondering why no one bought it before me! Do you mean it's in the nature of zircon to black out in full sun? My light blue zircon kind of does that, but it doesn't really black out, more like washes out, I thought that was due to the high RI and the portuguese cut of the stone. Agree with you re bezeling the stone, I will consider a ring but no bezel this time, I'd like to prong set it whatever I do, as it's already a large stone.

The blues don't seem to black out in full sun, but yellows, greens, dark pinks and reds can. I have one yellow (its a very pale yellow) that doesn't. So just my experience with them and how they can react in different light sources.

I think once you get it, and see how it reacts, you'll get a better picture of how to set it. I've oogled plenty it but am not buying at the moment (that could change if I see 'the one') as I'm setting plenty of stones I bought a few years ago. So its not that I think something is wrong with it. Its just me being a bit more discerning how I spend my gemstone dollars. (If I bought everything I liked, I'd be broke  )

I can't wait to see that one in your own photos. Please take some and let us know what you think. I have a couple of mint green zircons, and they're lovely, and do not black out, but I haven't figured out what to do with them.

Would love to know your opinion on seeing the stone in person. I've also seen green zircons that are quite dark in tone which can sort of black out so it's best to wait and see.

Arcadian - I see! Will definitely post pics of it in full sun that is if I see full sun here...It' sbene gre for QUITE some time!!!!

Chrono and TL - Once I have it, I will totally post plenty of pic and a review. I really hope it doesn't black out, now I am worried!

I'd had my eye on that one, too, so I'm so glad it's gone to a PS home! I'll be very interested to see how you think it performs in real life. Many photos, please!
