And let me not forget Justin at Manhattan Appraisers. Since I made my purchase in the shark infested world of the NYC diamond district, I was very concerned about getting ripped off or taken for a ride. I really learned what a mad house it is. Be careful about buying there if you dont know what you are doing. If you dare venture there, be sure to see Justin at Manhattan Appraisers. Justin is a down to earth really nice guy who knows what he is doing. He set my mind at ease at a pre-appraisal of my diamond and really spent time wth me to check out my choice. Of course it was awesome that he liked what he saw and felt I got a good price. His megascope machine is totally cool also, and he told me all my info on the GIA cert without looking at it. He called it by eye. That was impressive! I went back to him for a final appraisal with the setting and all and was very pleased.

I feel that customer service, patience, and professionalism is tough to come by in one package these days so I feel it is important to give credit when it is due. I would recommend him to anyone in the NYC market purchasing diamonds etc.

Thanks Justin

I, too, have used Justin''s services and was very pleased. I liked how he looked the ring over post-setting, which gave me reassurance that all was well with the center stone and the setting.

I also used Justin when I first came to PS. I was using a stone that had been in my fathers family for a long time and I wanted to make sure it was the same stone after setting. Well Justin took his time with his evaluation was extremely helpful and friendly and the amount of information I got on my stone was impressive. Provided megascope stats and had multiple lighting sources to view the stone under.

The stone was actually set in my mother''s old setting but he was able to have it removed and reset from the jewler next door for basically no charge.
Well. . . let me explain this better. Originally I didn''t know if I was going to propose with the stone in the old setting and then look for a new one with my fiance or if I was going to pick it out myself. Either way the stone was going to be reset rather soon. He told me to have the best possible evaluation I should analyze the diamond out of the setting. At which point he told me he could take it out himself or if I felt more comfortable I could have a jewler of my choice do it. I told him my predicament about maybee using the stone to propose but it was definately going to be reset soon. At this point he said we can try the bench jewler next door. The man was extremely friendly and Justin explained to him that it didn''t need to be a perfect time-consuming set ( just pop the stone out and pop it back in without hurting it so he could look at it). At no point was he ever sending me to a jewler to buy anything or anything of the like. The bench jewler didn''t even want to take any payment for his time. Sorry for the long winded response but I didn''t want anyone to get the impression that Justin is anything but a TRUELY INDIPENDANT APPRAISER.

Anyways, I have since got the stone set in a Leon Mege setting and I am going to return to Justin so he can "finish" the appraisal in its new setting for insurance purposes.

The short of it: great expereince at Manhattan Appraisers would recomend to others

Great post. Really helpful, I want an appraiser for after my ring is re-set. I suppose I''ll go to him before mailing it out too. Thanks.

Gypsy, I was really happy to find him and if you live in NY his office is in the perfect location: middle of 47th street in the heart of the diamond district in an upper floor of one of the buildings.

I picked him because I was leary about sending my stone in the mail before I got my "PS education"

Now I truly appriciate the service he gave me after hearing what good and bad service is in the apprasial process.
