I JUST moved, so recently that I don''t even have anything to clean it with yet. And I don''t know how long it sat there before I found it. I just crawled under the covers and YUCK!!! It''s the middle of the night and I won''t be going anywhere til the morning. I put extremely hot water on it and blotted my hands numb, but I don''t know what else to do. The fan is also right over it, and I don''t know if that''s a good thing or a bad thing. What do I do next? What is the best cleaner to get? I was SOOOOOOOOOOOO excited about this bed, since my last one was a smal makeshift piece of junk that I had for YEARS, and this one is brand new, king size, and so comfortable. Can it be saved??

Do you have any club soda in the house Kelli? That is a good quick fix for this type of thing. When you get to the store, get some Nature's Miracle.

I am sorry Kel.

Febreze is a great idea BeeStar!

I use Woolite or Fantastic for Pets carpet cleaner because it actually works to lift the stain out of the fabric. My dog had a few accidents on the bed a while back, and I scrubbed and scrubbed. There was still a wetness stain on the mattress afterwards, but it didn''t smell or anything. I''ve since invested in a good waterproof mattress cover for our new mattress.

Nature''s Miracle. The key is that you want to make sure you not only get the smell out to YOU, but to your dog too, so they don''t learn that it''s their personal potty. But my guess? Your dog is trying to tell you that she/he is PISSED about the move and the new bed and wanted to put their "stamp" on the new bed.

I have this thing called pet goe that is an enzyme based cleaner and it is fantastic for cat pee which IMHO is worse then dog pee it kills the smell to you and the animal. Your local petstore should sell the stuff.

Baking soda is also good in absorbing moisture and smells but the other stuff is much better.

THANK YOU LADIES!!! I went to the pet store and asked a guy who worked there what would be best, since they had about a thousand cleaners. There were a lot of different Nature''s Miracle ones too. He pointed out something called THE DOG WHISPERER Natural Pet Odor and Stain Remover. He said they sell out of it all the time and he gets really great reviews of it. Supposedly it''s all natural too which means it''s safer for you and the dogs, which I thought was good considering it would be used on my bed! It has natural enzymes and lemongrass essential oil, which smells great! I came home and first put some club soda on the stain and blotted, then soaked it with this stuff. I gotta say it does smell really fresh and clean. You have to completely soak it and then let it dry though which it says can take up to 48 hours (a bit of an inconvenience, but worth it if it really works). Keep your fingers crossed for me and I''ll let you know how good (or not good) it really is! After this I''ll definitely take the advice about getting a mattress cover. Thanks again!

Ok, as the bed is drying, the yellow stain keeps moving to the outside of the wet spot, thus getting bigger and bigger. I just keep putting more club soda and cleaner on it trying to avoid it staining or retaining the pee smell, but it seems I may just be making the mess bigger. For the most part the smell is gone, but every so often I put on a little more cleaner when I feel it needs it. Is the actual pee coming to the top now? Does the club soda and cleaner draw it up out of the fabric? My knowledge of cleaning is pathetic, I just never cared so much about preserving the new-ness of my stuff to freak out over a little stain. Should I stop putting stuff on it and leave it alone or keep going and try to get it all out?

I feel for you - my cat pees on the bed when he''s very upset over things (moving, new pet, etc.).

Put a bit of that stain remover on the outside part of it only, and take a rag and scrub it. That works for me to get the dreaded yellow ring away.

Another thing that works for me is putting it into a misting bottle and spraying it on the outer ring that way. When it dries, the yellowness tends to go away.

I use Nature''s Miracle, but the concept behind that and the stuff you have is the same, so it should work the same way.

Thanks Aloros! That''s what I''ve been doing, I just want to make sure it''s what I should be doing, since the yellow ring just seems to be getting bigger.

Not much more to recommend ( all has been said already)
I would however crate train your dog ( helps with house breaking) Good luck.YOUR new bed has been blessed .

Thanks scarleta. She stays in a crate during the day when we''re gone, but she loves sleeping in bed with us and has never done this before. I feel bad making her sleep in her crate at night too, but that''s what I''m going to be doing anyway.

I can''t let her ruin my house. She isn''t really even my dog, I found her about a month ago and filed a found dog report with animal services and no one''s claimed her. She was wearing a sweater, but no collar. She shakes terribly and seems very scared sometimes, so I''m not thinking she was treated very well at her last home. She''s very loving, but barks a lot, takes off when not on a leash, and isn''t so well potty trained. I refuse to give her up, considering she needs a home, but I have to figure out how to deal with her. It''s so frustrating not being able to take your eye off her even for a second.

I just wanted to add that we did figure out that my dog''s accidents were emotional, not medical. Along with getting the waterproof mattress cover, we also trained her to stop sleeping on the bed with us. She now sleeps in a dog bed right beside our bed. Sometimes we miss cuddling with her on the bed, and she often will try to jump up on the bed with us when we first go to bed, but she has learned to get down as soon as we say to, but overall we both sleep a lot better without her on the bed. Not sure if you would ever want to rethink having the dog sleeping on the bed, but I just wanted to let you know that it CAN be done (at any age) if you want to.

) It''s a little harder because we have another dog that we''ve had for years that sleeps in our bed. She''s not a problem and my fiancee seriously cuddles with her to the point that he doesn''t want her off the bed. Of course the new little one wants in too, but last night after I found the accident I put her in her crate. Today I''ve been randomly throwing some treats in there for her to find and she''s now laying in there with the door open because she went in herself. I''m really thinking and hoping she''ll be ok with this adjustment, and not whine and cry all night. We''ll see I guess! Thanks for telling me about your dog. Hopefully I''ll get that mattress cover soon too. I didn''t get to the store for it today.

I had the carpet cleaned a while back and the cleaners told me that cold water is better to use because it neutralizes the acid faster than hot - in dog/cat pee, throw up, etc. I know its too late now but - for future reference I suppose.

Kelli: So nice of you to include her in your family. She found a good home.
I would make absolutely sure that your new pet is house trained before allowing her in bed.She won''t suffer from it and you will help her out.She will think her crate is there for punishment if you place her in it after she has accident in bed even if you have a pad.If you want to help her out. There will be plenty of time to cuddle with her. Also don''t open the crate if she whines it would encourage her to train you to open when she whines. It will take few nights and she will adjust.Congratulations and best of luck.

I can''t help you with the dog peeing on the mattress but going forward you might want to purchase a mattress protector as a pp stated. Go to www.protectabed.com and invest in a protector for every bed in your house that way if he continues to pee on your bed (i hope he doesn''t) your mattress is protected.
