I just recently purchased a 1.61 carat round for my right hand. I didn''t want anything too big so I would feel comfortable wearing it every day with any attire. I loved the carat size, but now that I have had it for week, it looks smaller to me...I know...I know...it is still large, and people have told me so, but now I am wondering if I shouldn''t have gone bigger after all. It is mounted in a simple thin Tiffany yellow gold band. I have noticed so many of you have very large stones. Question...would you return the 1.61 and buy larger...or keep it and just buy another? AND...how much larger do you think is a good size that doesn''t come off looking too gawdy. Just interested in other diamond lovers opinions! Thanks for the help!

I hate to be the one to diagnose you but you have....Diamond Shrinkage Syndrome!!!!!

I personally think housework is like diamond excersize(It takes off inches in a bad way)

You wear the 1.61 carat solitaire as a right hand ring? Are you married, engaged? What do you wear on your left hand? Sorry, I very rarely see someone with two diamonds (lucky you) or a diamond solltaire as a right hand ring.

I went through the exact same thing you did with people telling me my stone was huge with my reply being, no I want a 3 carat upgrade in the future. My best advice to you is to ENJOY IT when people tell you it''s huge, REVEL IN IT because 1.61 is a good nice size when the average size ring out there is .75-1 carat (at least it is where I live). Smile & be happy that you have a beautiful big ring!!!!! Show your pride & happiness, it''s a DIAMOND!!!! This is how I''m "getting over" my ring, (as if there''s anything to get over, it''s 1.85 carats)!

P.S. I wouldn''t compare your size to what size the people have here on Pricescope. Most of us are diamond fanatics & the average sizes are larger here than in the real world.

Do what makes YOU happy! As a self-professed size whore, I know what it's like to have people tell you that it's big enough or for you to realistically think it is but in your heart it just isn't. I'd listen to that inner you because if you aren't happy now after a week with the stone you won't be happy in another week or a month or a year.

Since it was just purchased, I'd return it and get larger if you can...rather than keeping it and just getting another, one other idea is to do a 3 stone ring which REALLY helps the visual spread thing...I tried on a friend's 3 stone ring this summer and it pretty much covered my whole finger which a solitaire would just never do unless it was 10ct's or something! So if you are going for that visual bang, consider a 3 stone or even a halo on your existing stone to cover more finger spread.

But I firmly say go for what you want to do and if that means larger or 3 stone or something more visually striking, do it because there's no point in owning any sort of superflous luxury item (aka I don't mean an engagement ring which carries symbolism and is not a 'fashion' piece) unless it really makes you happy and you got what you really wanted. Good luck!!

Thanks for all the responses. First of all....I promise to post some photos.I have so enjoyed seeing everyones on here. Hopefully tomorrow when I can get my daughter to help me since I haven''t mastered that yet. LOL...

My original ering was a .33 carat. About 15 years later I added another .33 and a .47 to make a three stone. Plus a band of five .20 carats. So I had the bands, which I loved for years, but then I wanted just a solitaire. So after 28 years of marriage my husband got the 1.61 carat for the right hand. The neat thing is I can put the solitaire with the wedding band and have a whole different look. So they are nicely interchangable. My sister has a 2.02 solitaire and it just always seemed too big to me for every day wear, hence the reason I went smaller. Hubby was very kind and said to get whatever would make me happy...so I did...but then you get to thinking...gee how about bigger.

Anyway, after giving it much thought...I believe I have come to a conclusion!! I have two daughters. Therefore I would like to leave them each a nice stone as an inheritance...so I believe I shall keep the 1.61 carat and then add to my supply with a larger stone in a few years and both girls will eventually get a great keepsake from their mother.

By the way...it sure it nice to find other people who are diamond crazy.

Wow, sounds like you can wear the solitaire on your left hand & 3 stone on the right. Your fingers must be nearly the same size. That''s good because I find that I knock my right hand around a lot more (since I''m right handed) than my left hand. If you''re right handed you might feel the ring on the left takes less knocks, at least for me. Anyway fabulous decision on getting another diamond later that you can pass on to your other daughter. If I get the 3 carat size but I''m doing the same thing with my current ring for my future daughter or son.

Oh knowing that you'd like diamonds for both your gals, I think keeping this stone and getting a new one later would be a fab idea if you could financially swing it! Pictures are a must!
