I've been wearing my "Dragonfly" halo setting for about a year now. I like wearing a halo (never thought I would!) but I've have had a hard time deciding on a band to wear with it.

Usually I wear my original 2 mm., flat pipe-cut wedding band with it (it's so thin it slides under the halo). But I've seen some recent threads on curved bands, and tried on a couple, and I really like the look. Done right, it can really add to the "Deco" look of the ring.

Anyway, I spoke to Wink yesterday about the issue of spinning -- which would drive me nuts. He said that the way the matching band for my halo would be designed would take care of the spinning. And, he added that if I could get the band to spin while wearing it, he'd "eat his hat" or something like that.

Of course, this being PS, I've got too many choices and too many ideas, so here's what I'm wrestling with:

1. I've got extra sapphires left over, and Wink said he could source some more if need be. Should the curved band be purple sapphires, a mix, or all diamonds?
2. One band or two?
3. How ornate should the side of the curved band be? There is a large yellow gold "shoulder" (band of metal) the halo. I'm thinking I don't want that same shoulder on the curved band -- too bulky?
4. You can see from the photos of the wax (photos Wink sent me of another client's ring). that the profile of the curved band will sit up quite high. Wink said the profile of the WB will match up with the profile of the halo, but I'm concerned that if it's too high, I won't get the Deco "step effect" I'm looking for, and if it's too low, I'll end up with the dreaded spinning (no solder for me).
5. Do any of you know of any photos of vintage or new halos with double curved bands (one on each side?) The search function on PS 2.0 is not helping me.

Thanks!!!!

I know that you have seen my wedding set before. I have a curved band that does not spin ever! I'll post a pic of my wedding set as a reminder of how it looks. The w-band was custom made to fit the halo e-ring. It is a thin band, without any embellishments. I think this is why it works so well. I thought of two bands, but it was too much for my hand. I would go with all diamonds. You have a lot of color on the e-ring, as it is. I think that a diamond band would help the center stone pop. HTH.

ETA: My w-ring sits low on my finger and gives the step effect. It sits at the base of the halo. As I said above, it does not spin :))

Thanks, Taylorbug -- I love her ring and the curved band is absolutely perfect with it. I like a higher profile on a curved band.

Thanks, risingsun -- I was hoping you'd see this thread. Your curved band is one that I've always admired because it looks like the shape of it exactly matches your halo -- no gap; seamless. The part of your response I bolded is an excellent point. I do think you're right -- using small diamonds in the band would emphasize the center diamond -- that makes sense.

I, too, am concerned that three bands total (wedding band on each side) will be way too wide for my hand. Unless, of course, I go for a thinner, more micropave look for the bands.

So your band sits quite low (profile) but doesn't spin? Do you think that's because the band fits the curve of your halo so perfectly?

Portree...I love  the look of a curved band also...and have been on the hunt for one to go with my 3 stone ring for a while. Like you I have wondered about it rolling around on my finger. Good luck with your search...and be sure to keep us updated! What do you think about this one from I D Jewelry?

Sara~ I do think the band doesn't spin is because it was custom made for the halo. My jeweler worked with Saturn Jewels to make this project come together. Saturn mainly has antique reproduction rings, which need specialized bands. I haven't seen the bands on their site. My jeweler had a few in stock, so I could get the general idea how they would look together. She handled it with Saturn from there. If it is a very cold day, both my rings may spin together, but much less so than in my previous setting. Otherwise, they stay together very well. I do think that you are taking a risk not to go custom. The chance of a stock curved band fitting around your halo is, well, iffy. Plus I didn't want a space between my rings. HTH :))

my opinion?
1 band not 2.
alternating saph/diam.
NOT ornate on the side. Best of luck - fun!

This is a side view of the rings together. I hope this helps.

I like the idea of alternating sapphires and diamonds in the band.

Thanks for all the feedback and ideas, everyone!

Taylorbug, thank you for posting the link to the curved band on the DBL site. I like how David has different rings shown with the curved band and with the straight band for comparison. Are you looking for a curved band to wear with the beautiful ring in your avatar?

risingsun, I am going to have this ring custom made. I did see a $350 curved band (all diamonds) at Helzberg Jewelers, of all places, that was similar in design to the ring on the DBL website, and it would have worked with my ring, but I like the idea of having the ring custom-fit to the shape of the halo. I think it will cut down on the spinning a lot, and also give me more choices on the design elements. Thanks so much for posting the profile photo of your ring. That photo was very helpful; I can see how the ring encircles your gallery, the relative height of the two rings, and the detail on the side of the ring. I don't think I've ever seen a photo of the profile of your ring -- what a beautiful gallery it has!

motownmama, thanks for your opinion! I like the idea of alternating sapphires and diamonds in the band, though it's hard for me to imagine without seeing it IRL. Wink told me that I could always change the sapphires out for diamonds if I didn't like the sapphires in the band, so that might be the way to go. I like the idea of two bands, but actually wearing that much width on my figure probably won't be comfortable. One curved band for now -- I could always have another one made at a later date.

oddoneout -- thanks! Another vote for alternating sapphires and diamonds.

I'm still unsure how high the band should be off my finger. I told Wink I wanted a step-down, but it's got to work with my ornate gallery...that's the toughest decision.

I'm sending my ring to Wink mid-September, so I should have CADS shortly after that.

Sara~If you would like to see other views of the gallery or the profile, just let me know :))

I have an antique curved band that I've used with a halo setting, and also with the setting I have now (which isn't a halo, but has a curved profile.) Even though it wasn't absolutely a perfect fit along the side of either one, it didn't spin at all except with the whole ring. If a curved band matches your other ring even somewhat, it won't spin.
