should i get rid of it and just buy a new one?

this computer is 4 yrs old. the virus blocks me from most of the websites that i frequent, sometime i can browse PS and sometime i can''t. the virus takes me to a site were they try to sell me a $50 software which supposed to cure the virus. is this B.S. ? i think they just want to get my CC # and make other purchase with it.

It''s not that hard to remove that virus.

Do you have a "restore" feature on your computer? If so, just pick a restore point a month or so ago. Then run some antivirus software like AVG, McAfee or something. That worked fine for me when I got the same virus a few months back.

If you don''t feel like bothering with it since your ''puter is four years old, you can get a pretty decent laptop these days at BestBuy for around $400.

Do you have a good antivirus program installed DF? Also I heard from someone who knows about such things that you might have another virus keep uploading this one so you need to get rid of that one in order to cure the problem.

DF, didn''t you have a problem with spyware/addware a month or so ago as well...

I think you just need everything cleaned off your computer and a better anti-virus. I''m not seeing why you would need to buy a whole new computer. Unless you are just looking for a reason to buy a new one

. I used a laptop I got in Spring of 02, all the way thru fall of 08. It worked fine, just needed a bigger screen.

I just got this same virus, DF. Take it to someone that can edit the registry and install a good virus software - it can be fixed.

First, do you know what the Trojan is named. This happened to me the end of last month. Trojans are difficult to get rid of. It kept coming up on the virus scan even though I thought I wiped it out. And yes Trojans can be dangerous, because just after this happened my cc was compromised, but thanks to the cc company they called me right away and we were issued new cards.

To get rid of the Trojan run your computer in safe mode then run the scan

This was Karl''s advice and it worked for me for the Hupigon Trojan:
"malwarebytes ran in safe mode."
You have a dropper that is reinfecting the computer

You may need to download malwarebytes on another computer and burn it to cd to install it.

Trojan.Wincod is a computer infection posing a significant risk to the compromised system. Trojan.Wincod usually penetrates into new target PCs by attaching itself to a fake video codec. Once inside, Trojan.Wincod will configure your system to trigger popup alerts and system tray notifications asking you to update a certain video codec in order to be able to watch online movies and other media. Do not get misled into following this advice because these downloads will probably turn out some dangerous rogue anti-spyware trial, worms or more Trojan viruses that will definitely try disrupting your system and stealing your private data. Trojan.Wincod is known to promote its affiliate fake software called WinCodecPRO which has been rapidly spreading through computers worldwide. When operating inside your cyber-environment, Trojan.Wincod will open gateways for other outer malware to trespass on your system, it may also disable visiting security websites. To sum up, Trojan.Wincod is a nasty contaminant aiming to bring more malware into your system and provide income to the fraudulent developers of WinCodecPRO fake security program. As soon as you spot Trojan.Wincod or WinCodecPRO, make sure you don’t waste your time and get rid of the hazardous malware ASAP.

or check craigslist for your area and call a 16 year old to come and fix it for $50
Tell them what the infection is so they bring the right tools.

That''s EXACTLY what I had. It kept popping up in my notification bar that "Warning! Your system has a virus. It is recommend to run spyware cleaner tool." And if you did it (which I did, thinking it was the standard Microsoft popup), it would install something that would make it worse and hurt the registry. No amount of malwarebytes killed it, either, until my BIL got into the registry and manually removed it.

DF now that you got rid of it, get some good antivirus software that will update itself (some update hourly) so that you are protected.
