Hi Pricescope,

Some of you may remember me from the past few months as several of you gave me suggestions and opinions and I searched for an engagement ring for my now fiancee. I just wanted to thank you all once more, share our story and provide some pictures of what we ended up with. The story is rather long and I apologize in advance!

As you may or may not remember, I was looking for a white gold three stone ring with a center diamond and side sapphires. When I first came here, I was the typical male shopper. I had no idea of injustices of buying from a store in the mall and looked quite a bit at the Kay''s and Zales of the world. I had thought I had found the perfect ring at Helzberg when I posted it here and was promptly told that it was an outdated look and not worth a fraction of the cost. Thanks again! So my focus shifted to online shopping or local jewelers who I felt could give me a good price. I was fortunate enough to find a great local jeweler with a terrific reputation, which was verified by Richard Sherwood right here on PS. I contacted this store and the general manager and I set out to find the perfect ring. He showed me a setting and if it didn''t have the "it" factor, we kept looking. Finally, after looking online, I found the perfect setting. I showed it to my jeweler and within a week he had the setting in store waiting for me. It was gorgeous in person and exactly what I was looking for. So we began looking for center stones. I finally decided on a .72 RB. I thought it was gorgeous, but it was uncertified. The in-house gemologist had it as an H-Si1. It was completely eye-clean and truly a beautiful stone. Given the fact that the price was wonderful and I was very comfortable with the jeweler, I decided to move forward with my purchase. I took the ring to a highly-regarded and recommended independent appraiser. Much to my delight, he told me that I had gotten a great deal and in his estimation, he thought the stone was much closer to an F, than H and split graded it as a F-G.

With everything in place now, I began to make plans for how I would present the ring. Seeing as how we live in Florida, we often take advantage of the beautiful sunsets and have had some of our greatest conversations sitting on the beach watchign the sun go down. I knew I wanted to incorporate this, but wanted to do something extra special.

On the morning that I proposed, I told her I had something extra special for her today because she was having as rough patch (she had just had her wisdom teeth out and was preparing for law school final exams). So, I blindfolded her and we took a drive. Much to her surprise, we arrived at our destination and staring at her was a 34 foot sailboat which I had chartered for our private sunset sail. The boat trip was amazing and we had total privacy as it was only us and the captain. She started to cry, thinking it was a wonderful gesture, but not realizing that we would be engaged in just a few hours.

When we got out to sea she started talking about being hungry, so I told her I would go below and grab the snacks we brought. But what I really went down to do was grab the sushi (our favorite food) that I had pre-arranged to be waiting for us on the boat. Again, she welled up with tears, thinking this already was the greatest day ever.

Throughout our trip, I was playing cd''s with our favorite songs that I had put together the night before. Finally, as the sun got ready to go down, I made sure "our" song was playing. While the song was playing, we talked about our relationship and right in the middle of our song, I got down on one knee and popped the question. She said yes and began crying hysterically.
We took pictures and toasted champagne (which I had pre-arranged to have on board as well) as we watched the sun go down. It was amazing.

But the night wasn''t over. I told her that I had one more surprise left, but that we needed to go home and shower and change. So once we were on our way to the last surprise, I told her that I had told her best friend and that we needed to stop by her house so she could see the ring.

So we get to our friend''s house and our friend begs her to come inside so she can see the ring in the light. Much to my girl''s surprise, all of our friends were actually waiting in the house for a surprise party and that was our final destination. She was so happy and began welling up with tears again. It was truly an amazing day.

I''m sorry for this being so long and I''m sure nobody read this all the way through, but I just had to spread our little story. I''ve included some pictures of her ring (taken in horrible light so don''t hold that against the ring!) for your viewing pleasure.

Beautiful story and beautiful ring. I felt my eyes welling up a little while reading it! And the sapphires are a beautiful color and very well-matched. In the ultra-close up, it does look like some of the prongs on the sapphires are not pushed down all the way. If she finds the ring catching on her clothes or hair, you may want to ask the jeweler to make sure the prongs are all the way down. Congratulations on your engagement!

Oh MY! What an AMAZING proposal story! I''ve got tears in MY eyes too. WOW.

And your ring is lovely... I really love the color of your sapphires! Wishing you both the very best in your lives together!

Congrats!
Glad everything worked out for you
