Karl - I am glad to hear they got out safely! Please keep us updated as to the status of the building and if any others were injured! Fires are so scary.
some smoke damage to his apartment and some holes in the walls from the fire department.
apartment owner is putting them up in a hotel for at least a week.
no one injured, 2 apartments totaled 2 with some damage.
A little girl went up to her mom and said mommy fire, the mom looked back and the room the kid came from was engulfed so she grabbed her other kid and exited.
They think the little girl was playing with a lighter.
Wow, I just posted about my apartment fire in another thread, it was in 2007. Thank God everyone is safe (and hopefully all the pets too). For everyone that just went through that experience, it is something they'll never forget. Hopefully there's a strong community outreach for the fire victims, offering donations clothes and basic necessities. In the end my apartment fire proved to be a very humbling experience, I've realized that having luxury possessions or even just basic possessions is nothing compared to having your life and your health. My boyfriend was just minutes away from being very badly injured, and I'm just so thankful that everyone involved in the fire was safe. My fire was due to arson, we were attached to a pizza shop and the owner was trying to collect insurance.
Karl - I'm glad to hear that the apartment owners are doing right by them as well and giving them somewhere to stay. I'm also glad to know that your family members didn't lose their possessions completely.
I don't think I ever posted this but a month after DH and I moved out of our old apartment to come to Colorado; the building we lived in caught fire in the apartment across the hallway from us. I found out my neighbor in that apartment passed away And our old apartment didn't fare too well either... It's very scary!
Karl~I am so relieved for you and your familly. This type of news brings up nightmares for me. Our next door neighbor left a wood burning stove lit, without closing the screens or doors, and went to bed. My husband was out walking out dog and called to me to call 911. A woman and her two children and two cats were inside sleeping. The mother and one child were able to escape. My husband attempted to reenter the house to get the other child, but it was too dangerous. I had to hold the mother to restrain her from going back into the house. The fire department used our house as the staging area. The fire was finally brought under control and the little boy was brought out of the house. At about 3:00am, the fire dept chaplain came to our house and informed us that the boy had died. I had been caring for his sister, all this time. Sorry for unloading on your thread, but it brought all of these memories flooding back. I am grateful that your family is safe.

What a nightmare. I'm so glad they are safe. From the photos, they will have some work ahead of them, but their safety is more important. Lighters --- I hate lighters -- too tempting for kids.
This is my biggest fear about living in a condo that has walls/ floors that you share with a neighbor. Not only do I have to worry about myself causing a fire, but 5 other units.
Glad they got out ok. Fire makes me sick to my stomach.
A few years ago, my family owned 52 acres of land. Part of it was planted in pine trees. That part backed up to a cattle farm. Apparently the farmers were also firefighters, and decided to do a controlled burn on their property. The only problem was they didn't control it. I cannot begin to tell you how terrifying it was to come home and find the fire department all over our property. They had broken through two gates, corralled our horses by the barn, and had had to bulldoze through an area of the pine trees to create a fire trench. If they hadn't done what they did, the barn, the horses, the house, would have all probably been burned to the ground.
Karl I'm so glad that your family are unhurt. I hope that none of their belongings were permanently damaged and that they can get back into their apartment sooner than later.
