This is my boulder opal pendant. Notice how the play of color changes based on the viewing angle.
Boulder opal is opal occurring in ironstone matrix; the opal is cut on top with the ironstone matrix as backing that adds strength and a dark background.
It is NOT a doublet or triplet which is an assembled stone where the layers are cemented together.
