Oh yeah, and I'm engaged, too! :)

After a long and drawn out design process, my gorgeous 15.88ct green tourmaline from Gene at Precision Gem is finally set! I've attached some photos - sorry for the bad photography, but hopefully you can get an idea of the design. The ring is massive but magnificent and I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out - I can't stop staring at the stone. Many many thanks to all the Pricescopers who helped me with inspiration pics, stone advice and everything else!

Wow! The color is amazing. That's huge though! Is that for everyday wear? I'd be knocking it all over the place. :)

It is for everyday wear - and I have to admit I am a little worried about knocking it, although I wear big rings pretty much every day. It's a lot taller than most of my other rings, that's what concerns me, but I think it will be okay once I get used to it. I wish my photos showed the side detail better - the way the split shank flows into the head reminds me of a tulip, and the tiny diamonds accent the subtle side points of the stone (at least to my eye).

You will chip it if you wear it every day, it's just a matter of time. There is no way to protect it, especially sitting that high up, no matter how careful you are. You should know so you can protect it and perhaps wear a wedding band instead for everyday. I am very careful with my tourmaline rings, and regardless, I still have facet abrasion, a table scratch, and tiny chips in them, and they are small stones (around a carat to three carats). You have a huge stone sitting up very high. I'm sorry if I'm the bearer of bad news, but it would be a pity if you knocked a huge chip out of that ring. Tourmaline is very prone to chips and damage. It's not a very durable stone, especially for everyday wear. Even if you don't manage, by some miracle, to knock a huge chip out of it, loupe it in one year's time, and you will see a lot of abrasion and small chips and scratches.

It's very lovely, but please don't wear it every day.

I love it! I'd love to see more close ups of the setting. I agree you'll inevitably see damage over time. My mother's engagement ring is tourmaline and it is worn practically into a cab (started out faceted). Hers is only 1 ct and bezel set so it is far more protected.

Wowee!! I don't think you'll be suffering from "DSS" (diamond shrinkage syndrome) anytime in the future!

It's a lovely stone, but I would worry about damage as well. Be very careful with it! Do you like to wear pendants? You could eventually get a smaller/tougher stone for a ring and reset this stone into a pendant that you wear every day.

That's a knockout! We don't know if you plan it as an every day wear but I do hope you take the good advise about the likelihood of it getting damaged. It looks great though, congratulations.

That's lovely! And GINORMOUS!

It would be a real shame if it got chipped. Maybe you should consider wearing it to work, but taking it off as soon as you get home and wearing only your wedding band.

Oh yes - I'm not going to wear it around the house, especially if I know I"m going to be doing dishes, etc. I don't like to sleep with rings on either so I've been taking it off and putting it in its box next to my bed, then putting it on after I've finished my morning ablutions.

As for a wedding band - now I need help choosing one of those! I'm planning to wear the band on my right ring finger, and have been visiting jewelry stores to test various options. I kind of like the idea of just a plain white gold band in the same width as the E-ring shank, but I'm also not opposed to a little bling. :)

I love the braided bands from Kwiat on this website but I have a feeling they're way out of our price range: http://www.kwiat.com/Diamonds/Bridal/Diamonds/Bridal-Wedding-Rings/1

I'm finding interesting designs all over, including at, of all places, Moissanite.com. What do you all know about moissanite?

We're really not supposed to discuss synthetic stones in CS, but I will say that moissanite, to me, is a total waste of money. It's an overpriced simulant for diamond. I personally think good CZ looks better and is far cheaper. You may want to open a thread in the synthetic section for finding a good synthetic or simulant diamond. Diamonds are synthesized too, and for the price of moissanite, I rather have synthetic diamond.

TL, thanks for the info - if I have more questions I'll post in the other forum, but I was just curious since I've not seen any moissanite in person. Too bad, since I do like some of their designs. I'm going to take a little trip to the diamond district this week and see what's available out there!

ETA: Lovely stone btw! More pictures please?

A few more pics! The one in the lower right corner was taken in very low natural light - I was hoping to capture the glow that the stone emits in low light, but I don't think I succeeded. The others were taken in artificial light without flash.

I remember your hunt for a large e-ring stone that had very specific mm size requirements yet must fit a certain budget. It was certainly challenging and I’m glad you came back to post lots of pictures. I’m happy you love it and will also listen to the advice of the other posters about its gentle care and wear. Congrats!
