I have been posting about my upcoming 10th anniversary upgrade "project" -- and have just received my center stone! I have 30 days to play with it & decide for sure, but I'm happy to say I think it has found its new home...
As some of you who've been kind enough to read my lengthy posts know, my hubby and I chose between two stones and ended up ordering, from James Allen, a Round Brilliant 2.86 carat, G SI1 AGS Triple Zero cut stone. My 42nd birthday was Saturday, the 22nd, and though my Sweetie faked me out that the ring would not arrive until Monday, he had it in his possession after all and gave it to me that night after we had our 3 girls tucked away in bed after a long day...
I mentioned in an earlier post that one of my favorite places to admire diamonds is in obnoxiously bright-white overhead grocery store lighting. Well, after my sweet husband gave me the stone, I spent the next hour playing with it and admiring it - but seeing how it was ten o'clock at night, there was no natural light with which to play -- only warmer, yellowish night time lamp lighting. I was frustrated! So though I had jokingly said I'd head straight for the grocery store with the stone when it arrived, I ended up having an overwhelming urge to buy milk late at night -- and did just that. How's that for insane? But - it was worth the trip! The stone was nothing short of MAGNIFICENT in those lights.
Anyway, now that I have had a few days to play with it in all kinds of light, I can honestly say that I see what all the AGS Triple 0 fuss is all about. In the right lighting, this diamond does things my current e-ring stone just won't do. It is an e color 1 carat pear and though I have loved it and think it is beautiful, it just doesn't do what the new stone does. Though my new stone is a G, and dropping in color worried me, side-by-side you'd think the G was several color grade higher than the E. It is tremendously whiter and brighter looking and I suppose based on all I've read here on P-scope, it has everything to do with the cut.
Took the diamond yesterday to have it appraised and loved hearing everything the appraiser had to say. He appraised it for about 35% more than what my husband paid for it - and said awesome things to me such as " I enjoyed doing this appraisal because this stone is so nice. I can't say enough good things about the cut. It is truly a fantastic stone." He confirmed everything on the AGS report - but added that he'd actually give it a VS2 clarity grade, instead of SI1. So -- all good things! My husband called home that from his business trip and I gave him the details of the appraisal and he was pumped!
Anyway, I now need to make some setting decisions. It is SO hard to do that...when many of the settings can't be seen in person and there isn't much to see locally. Frustrating!
Anyway, I actually attempted to take a few shots of the diamond (in the cheesy tension mounting that allows you to "pinch" the stone and slip it on your finger just to visualize it better...so if the "prongs" look uneven or the stone looks tilted, that's why!) --
First let me say I will take more once I actually have it set in an actual ring - and hopefully with practice, I'll do better. Before this afternoon I had never even touched the macro button on my camera! The BEST lighting I found was soft, diffused natural sunlight filtering through my pergola over my deck. The stone just went crazy and fired off mesmerizing pastel sparkles galore...but I know I'm not good enough at this to capture that. The pink, aqua, violet, green and yellow sparkles were amazing. I put my old pear next to it in this groovy lighting, after cleaning it well, and thought it sparkled, but it was far less intense and just gave off whitish sparkles -- no wonderful rainbows!
Now the bad news: I can't get my pictures to upload. I tried but got a message that said the file was too large ( just for one single picture). Any clue what I do to fix that? Not very computer-savvy! I wanna show everyone a few first peeks of my new prize!!
