I have been posting about my upcoming 10th anniversary upgrade "project" -- and have just received my center stone! I have 30 days to play with it & decide for sure, but I'm happy to say I think it has found its new home...

As some of you who've been kind enough to read my lengthy posts know, my hubby and I chose between two stones and ended up ordering, from James Allen, a Round Brilliant 2.86 carat, G SI1 AGS Triple Zero cut stone. My 42nd birthday was Saturday, the 22nd, and though my Sweetie faked me out that the ring would not arrive until Monday, he had it in his possession after all and gave it to me that night after we had our 3 girls tucked away in bed after a long day...

I mentioned in an earlier post that one of my favorite places to admire diamonds is in obnoxiously bright-white overhead grocery store lighting. Well, after my sweet husband gave me the stone, I spent the next hour playing with it and admiring it - but seeing how it was ten o'clock at night, there was no natural light with which to play -- only warmer, yellowish night time lamp lighting. I was frustrated! So though I had jokingly said I'd head straight for the grocery store with the stone when it arrived, I ended up having an overwhelming urge to buy milk late at night -- and did just that. How's that for insane? But - it was worth the trip! The stone was nothing short of MAGNIFICENT in those lights.

Anyway, now that I have had a few days to play with it in all kinds of light, I can honestly say that I see what all the AGS Triple 0 fuss is all about. In the right lighting, this diamond does things my current e-ring stone just won't do. It is an e color 1 carat pear and though I have loved it and think it is beautiful, it just doesn't do what the new stone does. Though my new stone is a G, and dropping in color worried me, side-by-side you'd think the G was several color grade higher than the E. It is tremendously whiter and brighter looking and I suppose based on all I've read here on P-scope, it has everything to do with the cut.

Took the diamond yesterday to have it appraised and loved hearing everything the appraiser had to say. He appraised it for about 35% more than what my husband paid for it - and said awesome things to me such as " I enjoyed doing this appraisal because this stone is so nice. I can't say enough good things about the cut. It is truly a fantastic stone." He confirmed everything on the AGS report - but added that he'd actually give it a VS2 clarity grade, instead of SI1. So -- all good things! My husband called home that from his business trip and I gave him the details of the appraisal and he was pumped!

Anyway, I now need to make some setting decisions. It is SO hard to do that...when many of the settings can't be seen in person and there isn't much to see locally. Frustrating!

Anyway, I actually attempted to take a few shots of the diamond (in the cheesy tension mounting that allows you to "pinch" the stone and slip it on your finger just to visualize it better...so if the "prongs" look uneven or the stone looks tilted, that's why!) --

First let me say I will take more once I actually have it set in an actual ring - and hopefully with practice, I'll do better. Before this afternoon I had never even touched the macro button on my camera! The BEST lighting I found was soft, diffused natural sunlight filtering through my pergola over my deck. The stone just went crazy and fired off mesmerizing pastel sparkles galore...but I know I'm not good enough at this to capture that. The pink, aqua, violet, green and yellow sparkles were amazing. I put my old pear next to it in this groovy lighting, after cleaning it well, and thought it sparkled, but it was far less intense and just gave off whitish sparkles -- no wonderful rainbows!

Now the bad news: I can't get my pictures to upload. I tried but got a message that said the file was too large ( just for one single picture). Any clue what I do to fix that? Not very computer-savvy! I wanna show everyone a few first peeks of my new prize!!

can you edit the picture? I usually reduce the size from 100 by 100 to 30 by 30 and name it something unique like 43249230482304ring or something no one would name their picture. Also make sure it is a jpg. Hope that helps

Congrats on getting your upgrade stone!

You need to "re-size" the picture. How you do it depends on your photo editing software.
There may be an option to "Save for web" or something like that.
You may have to set all the parameters manually- make sure the dimensions are small (like less than a 4x6 photo or something), make sure the resolution is 72dpi and make sure it is a .jpg format (or other file type suitable for the web and compatible here).

Maybe we can help you with your setting issues. Which ones are on your ''possibilities'' list. What styles are you looking at?

I think I'll list my settings possibilities...as requested...for input/advice,etc--as I still can't figure out how to resize my pictures. Maybe I can play with it tomorrow.

Here are my setting thoughts/considerations...

*Definitely platinum

* eternity style setting & w-band (half or 3/4 eternity, most likely)- probably shared prong style (I love Mara's ring on P-scope)

* Several Whiteflash designs "grab" me - as I love the Legato style head. Looks so different from anything I have seen locally. I would consider the Harmony setting, the Diamonds for Eternity Setting ( with Legato head added) or the shared prong setting with Legato head...(I love Lynn B's Harmony setting with the beautiful head!)

* Knox Jewelers has a design called "Irresistible" that features pave and elevates the stone and is ultra feminine. I have emailed them and they said the setting can be tailored to my 2.86 carat size and a matching w-band made to work with it.

My thoughts are that on short fingers like mine, and also to exaggerate the size of my diamond, I like the look of a dainty eternity style band set. The Knox setting looks beautiful to me in the picture, and is unique looking I think, but I have a hard time picturing it -- and wonder if I'd wish I chose something more simple, more classic and more narrow. Plus I guess 2 pave bands rubbing together concerns me.

Any thoughts?

Wait a minute! I think the picture file will attach correctly after all -- it shows Knox Jewelers "Irresistible" setting. Does anyone out there know anything about this setting?

Lots of lovely choices... all on the same theme.

My concern with the Knox setting is the three sided pave and wearing a band with it.

From WF I personally, with your stone would go with Lynn's set. Or Mara's with Legato head.

I also love the Memorie sets that are shared prong setting. It would be my first choice for a shared prong setting. They don't have the risks of rubbing that some of the shared prong sets do. Plus the metal is super hard. Pretty cool settings, and IRL are gorgeous, and delicate in execution but substantial in bling. Plus, it would be easier to find a jeweler near you that carries the line and try on the sets to see how you like them.

Alternately, if depending on your budget... a version of JadeLeaves set from MWM but with smaller stones 3/4 way around.

Lynn's set:

MWM set for Jadeleaves-- smaller stones though, I just love side views of this set:

Folks, she went to the grocery store to check her stone. 3shebabes, you are officially one of us.

I am so thrilled you love your stone, and I am glad that you decided to take a chance to call it in to look at. These babies have to be seen to be appreciated. It''s easy to think what''s the fuss, before you''ve seen an AGS0, but after you''ve seen one, you do know what the fuss is about even if you don''t prefer them. Congrats.

Thanks everyone!

Shay, your comment abou me being "one of us" (i.e. certifiably mentally "not right" when it comes to all that glitters) because I had to make a special trip to the grocery store to see what my stone could do - made me laugh. Thanks for including me!

Gypsy, Thanks for your thoughts & suggestions. Funny thing, though, I had actually seen (and really liked) the Mark Morrell setting you mentioned (and included pics of) and tried to "copy" the pictures on my computer and it couldn''t let me. I got a copyright message and I couldn''t copy it onto my computer! I do like that setting -- it looks simultaneaously delicate and feminine and also substantial! Ant idea what something like that would run??

I also have admired Lynn B''s set. Not sure if I would choose Harmony or 3/4 eternity, but I just love that Legato head!

And I agree with the micropave rubbing micropave issue. My other big concern about that ring would be that even thought it photographs beautifully, would the micropave sparkle? I have seen m-pave in person that was beautiful and glistened magically and I have seen m-pave that had very, very little life to it...

Anyway, thanks! Any idea what the MWM setting would run?

Thanks again!

Gypsy: One more question for you!?!

You mentioned that your 1st choice of shared prong band would be Memoire. Can you elaborate more on why? I''d love to hear more of your opinion about what makes it special!

Thank you!

I too had a feeling hubby's story about the stone arriving Monday instead was concocted.

Your stone sounds fantabulous, just like I figured it would be. And you're right, that diffused sunlight is awesome too. Wait til you get it in some pin lighting, lord have mercy. We have a stationary boat here with a piano bar. The entire ceiling is black with nothing but hundreds of little white pin lights. I cannot TELL you what that does to my stone, it make me literally giddy, and the waitresses, and the people with us.....

I love Jadeleaves MM set, that is seriously gorgeous, and gets my vote!!!

I am so happy for you! Now, get those pictures up woman!!

I am glad you love the stone - I had a feeling you would. I adore my pear but I have to say I was completely WOWed by my coworkers AGS000 (that I helped him pick out) for his girlfriend....those ideal cut rounds definitely do things that pears do not. They all have their special places though...and it only cemented that I need an AGS000 in ADDITION to my pear.

Congrats! Would love to see some pics.

Hey out there! Still trying to post pics! Belle, I followed your directions to resize pics and I think it worked -- but tried to upload pics to my post last night and got an error message. Trying again....

Let''s just jump right on into the obligatory "flower shot". Presenting my 2.86 carat G, SI1 Triple 0 Ideal Round Brilliant (in cheesy, pinch-type setting that allows you to try it on...)

It worked! Now I''ll post another. Here''s a profile shot of the stone...

A shot of my stone, loose, on one of my pastel stripe deck chair cushions...

A shot of the stone on my hand to show you the scale. I wear a size 4 ring on my left-hand ring finger, just to give you perspective. I took this shot in the shade of my yellow, green and pink floral deck umbrella - so the stone looks a bit yellow in that glow, but you can see how the stone will face up on my hand...please pardon my wrinkly,in-need-of lotion paws and nails that are past due for a manicure. UGH! I'm 42, but my hands look 72! I also notice the center of the stone looks too dark in this shot. I think the table facet was reflecting the black camera. I noticed that I had to take all my shots slightly to the side, or that was the result...

Another shot of the stone, with an impatiens bloom, from another angle...

And, finally, a shot of the stone against green grass. I love the contrast against the green - I think it makes my stone, which is beautifully white, look really, really white! My hubby laughed at me trying to get this shot, crouched in our front yard with my tail up in the air...

GAAAAAAAAAH be still my heart!!!!

That is one HONKER of a stone! And on your size 4 finger... yowzers, no wonder you had to go ''get milk'' so urgently

I think from now on, all my urges to see diamonds in spectacular lighting will be known as going to ''get milk''!

I can''t wait to see how you set it. Congratulations on finding a one in a million diamond

Gypsy,

Who makes that setting? That might be just what I am looking for. I really like that look.

Thanks guys! I''m excited and anxious to choose a setting -- but here''s the latest: Our homeowner''s insurance has refused to cover it! I called right away when i received the stone and they told me no jewelry insurance "rider" was needed - it was covered under our homeowners policy. Then last night they called to say they had given me inaccurate info and that they can only include loose diamonds under $3000 in value under the homeowners policy and they are unable to offer a "rider" to add the stone to our policy as a loose stone --even if only for a few weeks till I have it set --but will only cover it AFTER it is set! I called my local Chubb insurance agent ( I read on P-scope they insure loose stones) and they said no as well. Then my husband suggested we have it set in a plain, inexpensive setting while I choose a permanent setting -- but I doubt local jewelers will touch it uninsured. Or can they possibly insure it through their business and we pay the premium on it? How does that work? I have a call into my favorite local jeweler to see what they advise..but no call back yet. What do I do? Any advice? I''m kinda stuck! And nervous! Thanks!

OMG that is one beautiful stone. I can''t wait to see the setting you choose.
