" has the first batch of photos I took of the finished ring (under incandescent lighting). This, the third thread, has another batch of pictures of the ring under varying degrees of natural February sunlight (through a window). I hope you like them! (btw, am I obsessed?)

The first is a collage of various fiery flashes. I was disappointed with the focus of these, so combined them and resized them smaller to minimize the impact of the poor focus. These digital cameras are tough to get good macro shots with.

This one isn't focused too well either, but I just had to post the whole thing. This diamond is just an inferno!

This one was taken in near-darkness, but gives some tiny idea of how fiery this thing is in low-light...

And to finish off the set, here are a few magnified versions. These were accomplished by simply jamming the lens of the camera up against a small handheld loupe (the 10X loupe that was included with the ring). I was absolutely amazed at how well they came out!

These are much nicer than the first batch. As a fellow supercert owner, I was wondering what happened to those big flashes of fire I'm used to seeing. I believe you've captured that quite well in just about every picture here. Of course, now I'm going to have to get a hold of a digital camera so I can do the same with mine

Thanks for comments, Lugus. I'll tell you, the huge benefit of using a digital camera is being able to take large numbers of pictures while attempting to capture the good shots. The images I posted are the best of about 200+ pics I took from every conceivable angle. Many of them were pretty poor, but I just erased those and kept on going. Nice. I just wish I had access to a better camera. Two megapixels worked okay, but I'd love to see what a really good 4+ megapixel camera with really good macro functions might be capable of....

Awesome shots Tim! You definitely are obsessed. The digital cam comes in very handy when taking endless shots of the ring...I think I went through 100 on mine before I had a handful I wanted to post/keep. It's nice to be able to take the shots..run to the computer, upload them...go through them quickly and then run out to take more before the sun shifts. Hee Hee.

I tried the closeup thing with my camera and a 10x loupe like you did but it did not work..I don't know what happened. So I gave up on that idea.

My camera is a 3mp Sony Cybershot with 3x/6x optical/digital zoom...and I still couldn't get shots as nice as a few of yours..I think it is also about knowing how to utilize the camera itself as opposed to just the #'s of mp's etc. You definitely have better command of your camera than I do of mine! Though I did capture an amazing B/W shot yesterday of Greg's dark silhouette on a bluff at San Gregorio beach near Half Moon Bay, CA. Maybe I will post it tomorrow when I upload it to my computer.

I used a Canon camera mounted on a microscope (can go up to 40x)
It's the way to go.

Great flashes of all different colors. I really like the Jamaican one, but the Green is really really neat!
