my 18" 24K Italian style gold necklace...

i bought this chain in S.F. chinatown about 13 yrs ago when spot price of gold was $330 per oz,it weights 72.5 grams. Chinese jewelers sells 24K gold jewelry by the gold content + labor,if i so desired i can add any length to this chain in the future and just pay for the extra gold plus labor.

Haha, my grandma gave me her old 24k flower necklace which I think was actually heavier than 70 grams, I'll have to take a photo sometime.

Do we have to rename \"Do You Have A Favorite Gold Designer?\" (aka "The Gold Thread") in order to get people to post about their gold there? I think that the title has become misleading. It has really turned into a thread about yellow gold, but especially about high karat gold. Jewelry designers are certainly discussed there, but so are custom pieces are local "finds".

When I see that a poster like Dancing Fire (who knows this forum) doesn't go right to that thread with his gold necklace or that MakingTheGrade doesn't know about the thread, it makes me wonder if we should change its name!

Probably this topic should also be discussed in the thread!!!

That necklace is thick enough to use as a padlock chain but of course, one would do so with a high value item.

AGBF, I had seen the thread a few months ago, at a time when it seemed like it was still focused on specific designers. I didn''t think to post there because none of my pieces are designer so I didn''t think it was appropriate?

really enjoyed it, but didn't find appropiate to post anything there since can't remember/ don't know the designers since most pieces were handmade

We don't need another thread, DF. That's my point. The people who hang out in the gold thread have become people who love high karat gold. I don't completely limit myself to 24K gold jewelry purchases (and neither do you), but 75% of what I buy is now 24K gold. That's a pretty high percentage given how little of it is available ready made in the United States!!!

I'm not sure what the price of gold is today (although I could look it up)*, but I know that I am not having any more 24K bangles made until the price of gold goes down substantially! None of my bangles was made as long ago as 13 years ago, but none was made since gold prices went flying through the roof, either!

*I looked it up. It is $1,097.30 per ounce today.
