Hi all,

I'll try to keep it short and yet share a few things learned during my hunt for the perfect diamond based on my budget.

I consider myself a "difficult" customer, thought when I saw Yekutiel at IDJ he corrected me and said I am probably a "Not easy" customer, but certainly not difficult. I am the guy who does a bit of homework before I open up my wallet.

At first I was referred to a "wholesaler" on 6th floor of the building near the diamond district. This guy came recommended by someone I truly trust and respect. Now ... most people in this situation would just believe what the guy says and go with what's given to you. I am glad I did not.

Thanks to this forum and other jewelers it was explained to me how bad the rock was that this guy offered to me. Quote was .... "this diamond is like a small piece of meat with a lot of fat around it". When I quoted this to him, he got a bit pissed and said it's crazy to be soo paranoid about cut measurements and etc etc.

So this guy was out.

It seemed like every store on 47th street I was walking in was trying to rip you off as much as they can. Some were bad and some were on the verge of being bad. 2 people were recommended by this forum. Yekutiel from IDJ and another guy whom I forget.

What I liked at IDJ is that he doesn't just show his diamond under those expensive, make the diamond bling lights. He actually has the "Day light" attached to the display for you to view your diamond under 2 different lights. He found a diamond that met my budget and when I compared it to other diamonds found elsewhere, everyone (other jewelry stores, this forum, a friend who knows more than me...) all pointed to the diamond Yekutiel offered.

I hope he's reading this as I'll be back to buy my wedding ring from him .... IF I get a good deal. ;-)

And so ... here is the ring...

1.08ct
Color I (blue fluorescence make it appear whiter)
SI1 (eye clean)
1.3 HCA
Excellent cut, polish, symmetry

Indeed, the stone looks beautiful, and good for you for doing your homework before pulling the trigger, it certainly paid off. The setting is beautiful too. :)

Fantastic diamond!! Glad you were pleased with IDJ - and I do hope you return and get your rings from him as well! I've bought from them too and think they are great!

I'm not surprised that other vendors pressured you to 'not worry' about the aspects of their diamonds that made them inferior! :angryfire:

Congratulations on doing your homework and walking away with a superior product, that looks just perfect on her.

I noticed something interesting .... i see women around me with their diamond engagement rings that are let's say 6month to 3 years old and none of their rings (main diamond or setting) sparkles as much as my fiances does. It it because they don't clean their jewelry or due to bad diamonds? just curious if the good HCA score and quality of diamond cut really has so much impact to separate sparkle vs dull.

Beautiful set! Did you also get it with IDJ?

Re: My 1.5Mo Diamond Hunt and Purchase from IDJewelry (Yekut

Beautiful!

Most people out there do not clean their rings regularly, and that is why they don't look like a new set!

The only thing I will mention is that you need a spacer band to wear in between those two diamond shanks or they will likely damage each other when they hit each other. That causes chipping on the girdles. You can use a thin regular, plain wedding band or a super thin spacer band like this:

Get the same metal the other rings are made of.
