Hi everyone, I input a diamond I am looking at numbers into the HCA 40.8 / 34/ 58/ 60 and got 4 excellents.

Just a little while ago while searching a popular website for diamonds noticed a different diamond with the same crown and pavilion angles BUT it had a 59 table and the picture of the diamond was UGLY!! WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?? IT IS GRADED GIA XXX AND LOOKS GREAT ON THE HCA -- now I don't know what to do. I thought these were great angles. Please help

Well, how does it look to you? Not all diamonds with the same specs will look exactly the same. They're different makes, per se. So it'll look very different. Plus if it's a GIA stone, the numbers are all rounded anyway, so it may very well look different. Why don't you post a pic of the stone in question and the "fugly" one.

I don't have a picture of the diamond, it is local. The stone I saw online, I can't seem to locate. It showed the kite facets looking darker than the rest making it seem to appear that it would look smaller. It is on the J_ site. I am thinking of buying this tomorrow but I am now wondering if these are NOT good angles. I have an idealscope and the stone showed no leakage under the table or anywhere else for that matter.

if the stone you are checking out in person looks good, don't worry.

But aren't these supposed to be great or really good angle combinations ? ...40.8 p / 34 c/58 t/ 60 d

Those angle combinations are *in general* good angle combo's... however I've also seen GIA Ex's with similar angle combo's get AGS 2 in light performance as well.

Oh geez now I am really confused! Rhino, don't they say if GIA triple ex along with HCA 1.0 , should be good to go???

Not my intention to confuse but yes ... not all GIA Ex's are the same, even with those angle combos. I have a video specifically on this subject including the HCA results (<2). I'm not saying that's the case with this particular diamond but each one needs to be inspected individually. Unfortunately there is no crystal ball that works that good. HCA is good for a general idea but you have to bear in mind it's not an end all/be all.

Thanks Rhino! Love your website! I happened to watch that video today, ironically enough. Still though, do you think you are more likely to get a better performer with these angles than, say, a steep deep GIA xxx? I used the wrong terminology on an earlier post when I said ASET. I did use an ideal scope and saw no ring of death, no white except for the tiny areas at the edge.
