I don't think I've ever seen this gem on here before! I stumbled across it on Etsy and it was super cheap, so why not? I must say, I didn't think about how big it was going to be - I have small hands and it's larger than my largest finger. I also realized after I purchased it that I didn't know the hardness. Google tells me that chrysocolla's hardness is 2.5-7.0, which is not particularly helpful. Does anyone have additional insight? If it really is 2.5 on the Moh's scale, is it too soft to set, even as a pendant? If anyone has any more insight into this gem, I'd be happy to hear it.

I collect chrysocolla, my friend! Though I'll admit I've never seen it with copper flecks. How cool. So, as far as hardness is concerned, this particular type (chrysocolla quartz suspended in silica) is a 6-7 on the Mohs scale (a bit harder than turquoise). It is perfectly suitable for a pendant, and I have plenty of rings I've worn for years with zero issue. Congrats on discovering this beautiful gem... enjoy!!

Here's my Artie Yellowhorse (Native American) pendant. It's 3.5" long! I have the matching ring, but can't seem to locate it at the moment. :think:

OMG, I love it!!!!
Women jewelers are the best! There is a certain feminine vibe from jewelry made by female silversmiths.

@pokerface, it's a gorgeous stone!

3.5 inches?! That's like the Arc Reactor!

Really beautiful -- almost hallucinatory (is that the one? Not hallucinogenic...)

If it doesn't hurt your back to wear it, Native American designers don't feel they've quite done their job.
