Can someone give me any advice on avoiding the "switcharoo" when I take in an unmounted diamond to a local jeweler to get placed in the setting? This is what I am the most "nervous" about when buying the diamond online. I haven''t read that there is much that you can do except use the loupe/certs and check the diamond when it is returned. Seems like there has to be a better way??? Also, would you recommend buying the setting from the same website or going with the local jeweler. My girlfriend would like a "basic" setting and I want it to be a surprise, so I don''t have an exact ring size, but have a good idea after trying to size some of the rings she wears.
