I have a weird problem and wonder if anyone else has this too!

I get motion sickness from watching certain action movies or TV shows!

Ever since ''jumpy/real life'' style filming took over a few years ago and replaced the steady cam style of filming, I can get motion sickness at the movies or even from watching certain TV programs...especially like ''home videos'' where the film quality is bad and jumpy. I actually get dizzy and feel nauseous... I''ve even had to leave the movie theater because of this...we went to see the last "Raider''s" movie and I was done for, after the first major action scene...I waited out in the car for DH and our son to finish watching the movie.

I also have found a lot of the ''TLC'' TV shows can make me sick too, because they use a lot of fast panning with the camera and ''live action shots'' for their reality type programs...I''d love to watch more of them, but I just can''t or I end up sick! Frustrating!

Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes. I suffer from motion sickness. Mostly in the car (passenger) but occasionally I'll get a touch of it while watching a movie/tv show. Perfect example was District 9. I don't know if you saw it but because it was filmed in a somewhat documentary style, the camera was constantly jumping around - made me a little sick

But I loved the movie, so go figure

Me too. Not as bad as it sounds like you experience it but I do get it sometimes.

We don''t really watch much low resolution stuff. Home video type things and jumpy TV shows we just skip. Not always because of this.

Most movies we watch are High Def and we watch it on our 1080 projector on a 110" screen. Makes you feel like you are falling too when they jump off a building or fly through the air.

Don''t know what to suggest. My solution is to just bury my head in B''s arm or chest until they move on to a new scene.

Thanks Bia! Funny thing is, whenever I tell someone I have this problem, they act like I am making it up! Half of the time I don''t even want to go to the movies, I just never know if I''ll have to leave half way through! And I avoid the ones I KNOW will make me sick.

And I NEVER get car sick! No motion sickness whatsoever, in the car, flying, on a boat, etc., just get it from ''watching'' stuff! That''s what doesn''t make sense to me. I''ve wondered if something like Dramamine would help, not sure, since it''s not actual physical motion sickness, but ''perceived motion'' that does me in!

Happy to know it''s not just me!

Yep, I''ve tried looking away too, but once it''s hit me, it usually just gets worse. And I just remembered my DH actually had this happen too, not too long ago...he took our son to see "Hancock" with Will Smith and it''s VERY jumpy and action filled. After that he realized I wasn''t making it up and he is careful about what movies he watches too. Just not fun!

I''ve definitely had this happen! The worst case of it was in the movie United 93. I had to leave the theater because I felt so ill. A lot of times I get kind of quesy every once in awhile in movie theaters.

Yes, I suffer from this too. Watching movies where they are chasing each other in cars, ugh.

Don''t ever put me on a boat. Have never been on a cruise. I would be in the bathroom the whole time.

Ohhh goodness yes. I get motion sickness badly. I can''t stand when FI plays Halo - those 1st person shooters make me so sick! The shaky camera also does, and I feel the worst when I''m in the backseat of the car. I get VERY queasy and it can take quite a while for the nausea to go away.

I tried going on one of those spinny rides at a carnival over the summer and was sick after ONE rotation.

See that''s what is really weird with me...I can go on spinny rides and stuff and it doesn''t bother me...but watching jumpy stuff makes me sick!! Yikes.

I have also wondered if the super huge movie screens make it worse. I never had this problem when I was younger, before the GIANT movie screens became the norm. we have an older traditional theater in our downtown and I want to see a movie there sometime, just to test it out!

The bigger the picture the more real it feels. B explained the science to me but I can''t remember now what it was. But the more of your field of vision that is taken up the more your brain feels like you are moving.

Another thing to notice is if it happens with DLP or LCD or both. DLP causes problems for B but he is fine with LCD.

Yep I have the same motion sickness, airplanes are the worst!!! I have to take dramine anytime I fly and I cant even stand to watch my son play his racing games on xbox the motion makes me dizzy

I guess I''ve been motion sick from watching certain things, but mainly, it''s boats that do it to me. I have felt sick at an Omni movie before, though. I wish boats didn''t make me sick but the waves get me every time. Oh and turbulance on planes is awful! I should start wearing magnets or something on my wrists. I hears they help.

I get motion sickness also. I have a system though that seems to work if I''m going on a boat or a cruise:

ginger tablets in the morning and evening 2 days before and during the boat/cruise and those acupuncture bracelets.

Yes I HATE this style of filming. It can be used a little bit to good effect but many resent movies have gone overkill on it and it gives me the worst headaches. The latest fast and the furious movie has a really looong chase scene on foot which is filmed like this. Horrible stuff.
