Based on my own observation it seems the most popular vendors on PriceScope are Whiteflash and HPD. Is that accurate?

Would anyone care to list "tiers" based on their popularity on this forum?

Something like
Tier 1: WF/HPD
Tier 2: ...
Tier 3: ...

Tiers based on popularity of the vendor or quality of the product? Often 2 different things...

Good Old Gold, James Allen, Brian Gavin, Victor Canera, August Vintage Inc, IDJ, .............

I was thinking popularity...although I feel like PSers correlate popularity with quality quite closely.

There are a bunch of popular vendors. Participation on RT has slowed down a lot so you may only see a few vendors spotlighted nowadays.

I've bought things from IDJ, e-weddingbands, debblazer, BE, BGD, HPD, WF, BN, UD of big and small values over the years.

Who we recommend can depend on the type of project and budget and specs.

Vendor recommendation is (or at least should) be based on lots of factors such as budget, time table, style desired, personality desired, if sketches are desired, if outside stones are accepted, type of stone/jewel desired, and probably several other things that aren't top of mind. I'd go to a completely different vendor for a best of the best round diamond than I would for a very nice emerald cut or a spectacular vintage round. I'd also go to a different vendor for a handmade setting than I would a cast ring. And then there are colored stones, pearls, faux diamonds, and so on.

Is there a particular set of criteria you were wondering about?

Agree completely. Stick around longer or go back further. Your time frame for review is too short.

As pointed out by others, the recommended vendors in a particular case will depend on the objective.

For a super ideal round diamond, then WF ACA and HPD CBI should be seriously considered.
For different shapes or cuts, then other vendors should be included/considered.
For an exceptional hand-forged setting, you'd want to be sure to consider certain vendors.

The great news is that there are PS-recommended vendors who offer quality services and products, and a wealth of experience on the part of PS members, so someone can get wonderful advice regardless of their objective.

so many acronyms......

Interestingly the most popular vendors may or may not even be mentioned in the threads - I guess it is all in how you gauge popularity - mentions, referrals, clicks from the diamond search tool?

Are there dozens (hundreds?) of people each day/week/month who come to PS, never post or comment, but use the information they see? Surely.

There are certainly vendors who appear time and again in RT - so by that metric, I am sure someone could use their anecdotal evidence and create a list.

Ultimately, as I think about it, the fact that so many vendors have recognizable acronyms is, in and of itself, pretty cool in this community!
