I have to make my final decision on my setting and Im starting to have so many alternative ideas. Sense my SI is probably tired of listening to me talk about it I wanted to put all my thoughts here and see what people think.

Im having it set by ritani, Its an endless love halo, so it was going to have that distinctive shank with the 90 degree angle and open space under the stone. But sense Ive sent my stone in, they have added some different settings to their collection and I think I might like another type of band better

Also, I had planned to have it all WG, but If fallen a little in love with RG and will probably make the shank RS and the head WG. Similar to these photos ive edited

and then after deciding that i was thinking about a milgrain. The RG and the pear shape i pretty classic and Im thinking a milgrain would make it look more vintage and less modern. Now Im wondering in regards to the milgrain is it a good idea or will it look like im trying to turn something ultra modern into something vintage, you know, clashing styles? And if I do it, should it be on both the halo and the bezel for the stone or just one?

So what do you think?

I love the idea of the RG shank and I do like milgrain on the outside of the halo and on the bezel usually. I don't know why but I think for your ring I would leave off the milgrain for now. If you wear it for a while without then decide you want it you can always add it later. I think you are right about the milgrain being a little too antique for the more modern style of this ring. Either way though your ring is going to be beautiful!!

I'm not sure what you mean about the two different shank styles, maybe you could post pictures that illustrate the differences.

This is what the shank is scheduled to look like currently, but im thinking of changing it to the shank in the OP

And I think youre right about everything there. The milgrain I could always do later if i thought it was something missing, I was just worried that rose gold isnt appropriate on a more modern setting, so I wasnt sure if i had to " vintage it up a little"

I like the rose gold, Id consider YG maybe but RG I just think looks better on my skin, especially in 18k. I like the ring as is but I dont know the WG doesnt pop on my hand.

Im SO indecisive

I like the shank design in the OP far better than the second one. If you are unsure about the RG or YG shank you could always go with un-plated white gold. It is a softer look than the stark white of the rhodium and you might like it with you skin tone a bit better. Check out some of yessie's threads for tons of un-plated white gold info. Also Packrat's three stone thread (first page of SMTB right now) has some good color comparisons of YG vs. un-plated white gold. I still really like the rose gold shank though :naughty:

SO glad you are considering the wg halo and the rose gold for the shank only! Very good choice!

I love the first (new) setting soooo much more! Good thing you didn't rush to get this done! I'd love to see the top view of that first picture because it looks like it is a 6 sided halo! I do think you can do milgrain on the newer version more so than the old version because the old one is more contemporary to me. I would personally do the milgrain because I love it!

I love the idea of the rose gold and white gold halo. But i too think the milgraining will be a clash of styles. And I actually prefer the bottom shank but then I am very heavy handed and I like my stones to be set as low as possible and i expect the second style to be a bit lower.

You are right DS it is a six sided halo. I think that would be so sweet if I had a RB.

I think the millgrain will wait. If I'm by sure about it I think I'll hold off, I can always do it later.
As for the shank, my original e ring ( that turned out terribly ) was made in unplated WG and it still didn't grab me, which is why I'm exploring the two tone option. DS was right though the halo should for sure be WG.
The shank I think will def be the changed one, not the original 90 degree one it was going to be, I think it'll look more timeless , even if slightly modern, where the 90 degree might not age as well.

Is there a problem with the rose gold being to romantic for the setting? I mean it is a pear and that'll lend itself to more timeless designs so it should be ok. I just don't want anything to seem like its out of place or clashing styles.

And yeah I'd love to rush this but heck I feel like I've been designing this ring for ever!! What's another 2 weeks?

Ritani has this chat function, I was trying to get the alloy mixture of their rose gold and it was like pulling teeth. They just kept going 'itll look coppery" oh what is the percentage of the alloy "25%" ....of what??? finally They told me to give them my email so I should be able to tell what color RG they use, I just was hoping to make sure its not too rosie

I have to decide tomorrow and Im having such trouble!!

Will putting the WG next to the RG make it look too pink, I dont want the juxtaposition to bring out more of the pink.

Also, will it seem like I am trying to make my stone look bigger? I mean I am getting a halo for more finger coverage, but I dont want people to think im trying to trick them into thinking its one bigger stone, similar to a cluster ring
