I am potentially interested in the diamond whose specs are outlined below. I have been reading these forums for several weeks, and now am hoping to tap some of your knowledge (this is my first post). I would be grateful if you can tell me if this is a decent diamond for the asking price. Thanks for anything you can offer. I look forward to reading the responses.

Hi, FTP! Have you seen this stone?

also, GIA does not give the cut grade "ideal"

I searched 2-2.5K, .75-.85, I-J, VS2-SI1
not sure if it's eye-clean, but that's why they have returns: http://www.bluenile.com/diamonds_details.asp?pid=LD00414392&filter_id=0
Expanding my search to 2.75K, I-J, VS-SI1 I found the I SI1 from earlier and 2_

I don't know your budget, but I kept them all with >5.9mm diam, so they're all about the same size, since I assumed you wanted to maximize size, judging by the intial J VS2.

(i''m new but it looks nice to me)

I have an old round diamond that''s an I with very similar measurements, only not as good on the polish and symmetry and it take my breath away every day. I like the stone you picked.

Thanks for the comments. I am looking for an eye clean diamond that is as large as possible for about $2300.

JulieN: I am trying to interpret your comments. Do you think the diamonds you listed offered a better value or are you just giving me more options? I've read on here that blue nile doesn't offer the best value but I haven't found anything better.

But I have found one other comparable diamond, listed on 3 sites for 3 different prices. Would this one be a better value? This one is a little smaller but 2% larger table. This diamond also says 'Clarity Characteristics: Crystal'. The above diamond says under comments: additional clouds not shown, internal grainings not shown. Does any of this matter?

The ones I gave you all have better angle combinations. One of them actually does have a 41 PA, but CA with it is better than the one you picked.

ETA: I'd X the mondera, since we don't have more details. The JA and DCD one are actually the same stone, I believe. (Same company, price difference is probably wire price or something...)

Thanks, I may look into this one that you found...

The Mondera one is the same diamond as the other listing - it has the same GIA Cert #.

But if this one is inferior I will drop it.

Yeah, that's the only AGS0 on the list.

Inclusions are usually never as bad as they look on the plot.

Ah. Well, I never said it was inferior, only that I didn't have more information on it, and we already have a list of 6 stones. I didn't realize it was the same stone. James Allen can get you Idealscope pictures.

How do these two compare?

Did you get the .77? Because it's not available anymore. Which I wouldn't buy, ANYWAY, because SOMEONE covered up the report number and date. ???? I actually had that diamond up on the list until I realized there was no date (and then I removed it.) Maybe I'm a cynic, but if I see an old-style AGS report but it is dated after the new system was rolled out, I would not buy it because, to me, that means the cutter knew it wouldn't get an AGS-0 light performance.

No, it wasn''t me. I''m still in the market...

Dang Julie! You go girl! Seems like you''re pretty much taking the load of helping our friend here find the perfect stone.

I would have to agree w/ Julie about the date being covered up though, that seems a little strange...

btw - When did the new AGS system roll out?

I THINK May for princess and Sept for rounds, 2005. Something like that.

FTP, I really like the AGS0 J SI1. However, the inclusions are smack dab in the middle.

Ok, say you get the stone. And you can see inclusions. Shipping it back, USPS insured, registered...is like $20. I'm not sure

but I think it's about there.

The definition of eye-clean is being able to see it from a distance of 8-10 cm away. The good news (!) is that since there seems to be so many specks, I think that means they are probably not black.

That is, a white VS2 inclusion is allowed to be bigger than a black VS2 inclusion.

If you have particularly eagle eyes, this may not be for you.

lil jay estimates, in his experience, that 2 out of 3 SI1 stones (under a carat) are eye-clean.

Yes - I was wondering about the position and was just reading a different thread about whether their position is important or not.

I am leaning towards asking if it is eyeclean, and then going from there... In the meantime I will keep my eyes open for similar diamonds.

Blue Nile will not know if it is eye-clean, since they drop-ship their stones. Basically, BN is a huge database. However, I guess you could ask them to ask the supplier.

I really don't want to seem like I know more than I do, so perhaps you could start a new thread, "help with interpreting plot," or something.
