I came across this piece today. It's a good parable (such as Furthermore is fond of relating) of what can happen when you try too hard to get something for nothing in the diamond business.

If this could happen to an ex-ASAS sergeant, imagine what might happen to the average consumer?

That's awful. But doesn't this say it all? "He'd done the group network thing with Avon, Amway, Tupperware and car products, and more recently had been involved in flogging dodgy pyramid investment schemes. This time the deal was rough-cut illicit diamonds. This time he'd get rich."

He obviously wasn't savvy enough to let go of his "get rich quick" schemes. Most of us try not to count on winning the lottery, or hitting it big in Vegas, or getting sucked into a pyramid scheme.
