pardon me if this has been discussed previously; tried to do a search but to no avail...

I was recently shown an eighternity 1.03ct G VS2 xxx stone and was surprised by it's scintillation! I am doing some research online about these modified stones but couldn't really find a drawback to them other than personal preference.

Are there any other drawbacks or cons to buying one of these stones? Resale value? Are they worth the extra $?

"worth the extra money" is subjective.

If you buy from a vendor with a good return / trade in / upgrade policy (i.e. Good Old Gold - they carry them) then you should be ok. If you get it you have 30 days to live with it before you have to make up your mind as to whether or not it is "right" for you.

Here's links to videos comparing it to other ideal cut rounds:

thanks for the links... that helps a lot. So there are no drawbacks to getting a modified round brilliant then other than personal preference?

The GIA certificate does not list a cut rating for the diamond... nor does it list crown and pavilion angles... is that because of the extra facets? Does an eighternity diamond mean the cut is excellent?

bump... does anyone here have any feedback?

well personal preference is an excellent reason to choose (or not choose) a stone

Preference, higher pricepoints due to branding, difficulty of resale if you don't go with a vendor with an upgrade policy like Circe said.

Do you have any info or pics of the one you're considering specifically? Upload the report if you have it. It's normal for GIA not to list a cut grade for a modified RB (fancy shape), and crown angle would be meaningless since there is no physical facet that spans table to girdle

Hi supafly,

They are very pretty diamonds, just a different flavor of round. GIA and AGS will not cut grade modified rounds at this time but that should not be a hindrance to your decision if that is what you prefer.

All the best,
Rhino
