Hello all! First time poster long time follower here!

So I’ve been working with Jon from Distinctive Gems on selecting a pair of lab created diamonds that would come as close as possible to ideal cut diamonds that meets pricescope standards. We selected the pair today and I am super excited (I’ll do a separate post to share my amazing experience working with him and to share the earrings when they are made).

So the diamonds are 1.19 VVS2 L and 1.22 VS1 K. They have a warm yellow undertone but face up pretty white. Now I need to pick a setting for them and I keep going g back and forth on what I should get. Based on his recs I’ll do large friction backs (help with drooping and comfort) but the setting I just don’t know!

I like the look of martini but worry about the pointedness of the base. But I feel these would give me the look of the diamond sitting as close as possible to the ear. But I worry about the comfort of martini and how it would affect my piercings where one has a tiny stretch in it already from a ski accident.

my other option is a classic lightweight four prong basket setting (as long as it’s low profile).

last choice would a three prong basket martini setting. But I’m not certain this would give me the low profile close to the ear look that I want.

I plan to wear these daily but not to bed so comfort is key.

I’m curious what y’all have to add in regards to pros and cons of the various different settings. I’ve read various posts on here but I still can’t figure it out!

Here is a picture (still of the video Jon sent) of the stones. We chose the ones on the left. Not sure if this helps in picking a setting... A4054C12-5948-4A75-B429-06D0A95AF02A.png

A three prong martini basket setting will still sit really low, just as low as a 4 prong, so those two just come down to the look you prefer.

I didn't want the pointy martini setting, but wanted the look with better comfort, so I had a 3 prong cupped setting made (Jon sourced the diamonds and had the settings made for me) and this is how they turned out:

They don't dig in to my ears at all and give me that floating diamond look I wanted.

I’m so not helpful but I just wanted to say I love the diamonds you chose. I just purchased 2 ctw L color diamond studs from Ritani. Yay for L color diamonds!

I prefer low profile basket settings. That's what Tiffany uses so I figure it's a classic! I would not do pointed martini settings since they could stretch the piercing hole.

I also went with a “cupped” 6-prong setting. Very comfortable but sits low in the ear. This is the scallop setting from James Allen.

All great recs!! Thank you so much! I saw this one on his site and I am leaning towards this one. It has the kind of rounded base. I’m hoping this would sit right against the ear but alleviate some of the stretching...

Thank you! Both sets had L colors and it was neat to compare the different undertones in the color. I LOVE the pink undertone but I going to save that for a honker of a diamond to set in a solitaire. Just need to start saving post this earring project!
